I think they are pretty similar honestly, learn some chords, then a few songs, yada yada yada. Sometimes I wish I had stuck with the piano a little more, I just enjoy the sound of a piano a little more.

I'd recommend a digital keyboard/synthesizer. They can be cheap. And small.

That's probably the best way to learn the piano, but I'd say get one where the keys are the same size as a piano. If the keys are smaller, it might make it harder to play a piano. Or maybe not.

I can read piano sheet music, and I know what keys are what but my playing skills are self-taught and not very good. I've always wanted to learn how to really play, but I've never really had the time with all the other things I'm interested in.

I agree that the keyboard has a pro over the guitar with the headphone thing.

I'm not too nervous about learning hand positions to get notes right with the guitar.

Also, I think I will get more use out of a guitar outside of the house... I mean, who brings a keyboard to a camp fire?:P

i would say piano since you have a bit of experience with percussive instruments. piano is obviously similiar because you are striking the keys. guitar would take more to learn i think.

I've found that self-teaching is very hard no matter what instrument we're talking, so you'll probably find similar difficultly with either choice.

I'd say it's more important to pick the one you find yourself more interested in.

Waaaay offf.

I play guitar and it's a fun experience. It's hard to pick up but once you get the hang of it, it gets much easier.

Piano is easier to doodle around on much it's way harder to get the hang of. Playing chords with your left and the melody with your right is a really difficult thing to learn how to do.

It also greatly deals what you like to listen to more.
I have small hands and I'm able to play guitar, it doesn't matter all that much.

OR
You could do both.
