Less than a week ago, I posted a topic about Jay-Z and Beyonce getting married. Unfortunately, that didn't sit well with the majority of the Pavilionites here, as the majority of the posts inquired what "Hova" was. However, I think the comment that really took the cake for my topic came from veteran poster Ryner, who gave me a no-nonsense reply that many Pavilionites don't favor these urban topics.
That's fine with me. Nobody can like everything. However, I believe I shouldn't have said "I don't care" in response to Ryner's statement. Instead, I want to retract that statement and say "Thank you" for being brutally honest with me. I never really considered it in the past, but now I am, and I'm more appreciative of your honesty. Now, I need to go on with the purpose of this topic.
I post a lot of stuff relating to Urban culture (for instance, I made a topic about the movie "Pride," which spawned racially offensive responses). It has not deterred me from making others, and if the community doesn't respond, I don't consider it a failure, but even I appreciate the "views" the topic receives. Now then, the purpose of me making this topic is that I want to address some things happening in the urban culture that I want to get off my chest, and I figured I'd start with this first subject. I will try to incorporate other topics on a weekly basis, this I swear.
The Subject: The Best and Worst Contemporary Rappers- 4/7/08
Ah, this is going to be a field day, people! I know you've all heard the phrase, "Hip-hop is dead," and quite frankly, I'm starting to believe it with all of the one-hit wonders crashing in on the scene with watered down garbish: Shawty Lo, DJ UNK, Soulja Boy, etc. However, I don't even need to say they're garbage. All you need to do is listen to the music, which constantly plays on the cot damn radio. Now, amidst the garbage stands a few MC I respect for keeping hip-hop alive:
Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Common Sense (now Common), Mos Def, KRS-One, Nas (Thanks Peachy)
These rappers keep it real, and whatever sales they garnish is well-deserved. If you want to refute my statement, reply here. If you agree with me, reply here as well. Check back next week for a new subject.
