When it comes to the RPGM series, you take what you can get. Even something like this would still be pretty cool if you know RPGM's limitations well enough.

It doesn't break up the flow of battle unless you suck.

Maybe the enemy plays dead, so you think you've won, and then he posseses Bob while your backs are turned.

I'm a bit rusty for Maker 1, but I can't think of a way to set it so the game ends if Bob dies, so I was wrong there.
How about you set the battle so it's possible to beat the boss in a certain number of turns, but not easy, then if the battle lasts too long, Bob is possessed. Then the battle goes until the enemy party, including Bob, is killed. I think having the battle end prematurely counts as a loss, but I'm uncertain. Been awhile for me, too.

                Really now?
Because it did not seem to break the flow of the battle.

ive been working on a way to make a boss battle that has multiple parts in the same battle. i give it no graphic but label it magic or attack. that way you have the boss and other sections of him. perhaps this way is possible to achive somethig more challanging then a single boss such as you have to destroy his big healing side in order to damage the other parts effectively.

multi stage battles are hard to make with the game systems but we all understand that and can forgive some of the unrealistic forced bits.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

That's an interesting idea, but wouldn't the two parts work independently of each other, especially significant in regards to taking turns and MP? One cool application might be to call one piece "armor" and have it do nothing but cast temporary buffs on the "main" enemy, but even then I could see a lot of things going wrong...

Yeah they would fight separately. But that wouldn't be any different than bosses in commercial RPGs with different parts. Baigen of FF4 and Bizarro Sephiroth being a couple of examples.

If it's that much of an issue for anybody they should get out of my topic because they're clearly missing the point.

Re: Ryner talks about battles and combat

You don't even have to mess with the actual battle system, you could just make new ways to become more powerful. That alone could make boring BSs interesting.

We have very few excuses why our BSs are so ho hum, we have RPG Maker 2, which allows us to create incredibly original battle systems even in the DBS itself(which if I ever get to RPG Maker 2 again, I'll proudly show off to you guys).

Re: Ryner talks about battles and combat

Now I don't know much about RPGM 1 or 2, but in 3 there's no way to affect a monster's stats. But in making The God Gene, I've figured out a cool way to give the same experience without making an exact clone of the enemy. Simply raise or lower the stats of the player based on how much you would lower or raise--respectively--the stats of the monster.

Now say I wished to power up my monsters attack power in between rounds by 50. I can't do that. But I CAN reduce the power of the player's defense by 50. It gives the same effect. After the battle is over, the player's stats are returned to normal. Of course, you could always just have the monster use a spell or skill that raises a stat, but that can only be done one stat at a time, it's only temporary, and it wastes a turn every time.

The only setback is that if you have a character with less that 50 defense power, then their stats will be reduced to zero and then after the battle, be increased to 50. But I've managed to find a way around that. I have a variable set up that only reduces their stats IF they're stat is, say, at or above 50. This of course, only works if your "leveling" system works through events and a variable tracks their stats.

Just lowering the characters stats is brilliant. Nice find Ivan.

I think it'd be less complicated just to make a clone with different stats...
