The Official Online Minecraft Thread (NEW: Server Hosting!)
I say that because Java's Garbage Collector makes memory leaks hard unless you are using a complicated memory manager which is holding onto global scope objects and not destructing them properly.
The alternative would be C++, most likely, which would remove the cross-platform-ness of Minecraft, which I here Notch considers pretty important.
In about a week, the server I've been privately running for a few folks will most likely be made a little more available to folks at the Pavilion. I'll be moved into my college dorm by that point and ought to have a very powerful internet connection, one strong enough to host a server properly.
At that point I will most likely display the server IP to the public and will probably have ways to check the identities of those signing in to keep unwanted griefers out. Oh, and I'm doing regular backups. :3
Alright, it's up and official. It has to run through Hamachi because I can't open up ports here at school. ...But 2.3MB/s for uploads pretty much guarantees a lag-free environment for most. The server name is PavCraft, the password is Pav. Pretty straightforward, huh? So there's no reason for not coming on and playing! It's set to creative for now, but I'll have monsters active and let you choose your game mode.
Basically, identify yourself on the Hamachi network and say who you are on Minecraft so that I can know who I'm dealing with. This way I can keep any griefers out since this info has just become very public.
It would be great if you guys would play because I'm sorta risking my neck by whoring up so much bandwidth.

The server does run really well. I'm not a huge fan of creative, mostly cause I have no building talent. I did create a tiny little adventure/story thing though, that was fun.

Hmmm, i dont know anything about Hamachi, is it something i have to download? I finally purchased a copy of Minecraft the other day, so i wouldnt mind finding a server to join.
Since nobody else has every really showed any interest in doing what I do, I'm considering bringing the Pav server back up. Heavy loads won't be allowed, though, since I'll be hosting at home until April.
