Re: The PS Vita pre-launch roundtable

All those games are ports or "smaller versions" of already-existing console games.

Where are the games that set the system apart? The Wario Lands, Advance Warses, Brain Trainings, Nintendogsesses, Kirby Canvas Curses?
The irony is I'm one of the people who WANT the big console games on handheld because I'm rarely home, between work and my commute. I might be in the vast minority, but at 3 hours a day for my commute, that's how I roll.

I think Little Deviants looks cool, but it seems more like a "look what the back touch panel can do" thing than anything else. A lot like some early DS games were pretty much just tech demos.

There are three free Vita games (most likely glorified tech demos) on PSN right now.

They are AR games that use the AR cards that come with the Vita. I havent tried them yet though.

As for the games being "smaller versions" of already existing games, that happens on EVERY system, it was alot worse on the 3DS, but the games on the Vita are practically equal to their console counter parts, and of course many of the games are more along the lines of "sequels" instead of "ports". Wipeout, Uncharted, Hot Shots, Dynasty Warriors, etc. Many of them are different games with new tracks, races, features, etc.

But there are plenty of original games available or coming for the system. Army Corps of Hell, Sumioni and others are different, besides the fact that you can download PSP games to it, and eventually PSOne games also.

I've gone way overboard on games for it though. I currently already own: UMvC3, Wipeout 2048, Hot Shots, Army Corps of Hell, Mod Nation Racers, Super Stardust Delta, Dynasty Warriors Next, and Mutant Blob Attacks. But i took advantage of the Amazon B2G1 Vita games also, so i'll also be getting Uncharted, Lumines, and Rayman.

You may want to call the Vita a port machine or something, but this thing is like a portable PS3 in my hands, and that is exactly what i need nowadays for my limited gaming time, and i think this thing will be pretty popular for alot more than just that.

I guess you need to pay for a month of 3G service before you get the free month. And the free game won't unlock until the end of the first month of paid service.

yeah that was a pretty bull**** swerve.

In other news, my system locked up while playing Hot Shots Golf and is now unresponsive.

I might be done with dedicated handhelds considering how little I played the ones I've had. But if I decide against that I'll probably get another PSP with an eye toward upgrading to Vita once an exclusive game I really want comes out and after a price drop. Not saying the current price isn't reasonable, it's surprisingly so, just if I'm gonna wait anyway may as well hold out for the price drop, amirite?

"Well, the first thing is that consoles -- PS3, PS4, Xbox 360-2 -- the market for those will get smaller, and the main market will become portable games," he said. "I don't think consoles will disappear, but more and more people will use home PCs for gaming, and a long time in the future it will just be PCs and mobile phones, and eventually mobiles will become just as powerful as games consoles."
I see nothing wrong with this.

If I wasn't a poor SOB I would have picked it up.

I want one, badly. Mostly because of the PSN possibilities I've been missing out on since losing the PSP. But the damn price tag. I'm waiting for a drop and inevitable redesign.
                            ...and that's why.

I was actually fairly impressed after unboxing.

Unlike the 3DS, which I could tell immediately was poorly designed and awkward, the Vita feels much nicer.

The screen is gorgeous compared to any of the Nintendo handhelds, and it doesn't feel cheap like the DS.

I am more optimistic that I will find some use for this than I was the day before yesterday.

Surprisingly enough, Dynasty Warriors Next is amazingly fun. The touch screen and gesture based stuff is actually quite good, and the core gameplay is pure dynasty warriors, with a decent story mode and campaign and create a character. Again, this is fantastic for a handheld DW game. And i havent even tried Army Corps of Hell yet! I think this is going to be like Overlord or Pikmin.
