    Re: OnLive

There's a couple good offers going if anyone wants to check it out.

I don't have all the details but new purchasers can get their first game for $1. I don't know what kind of limitations exist though.

Also I got an email saying if they get enough likes on Facebook everyone will get their next game for like 98% off. Apparently they did since I just got a promo code in the mail and bought the new Deus Ex for 90 cents. Apparently the offer only applies for people who made previous purchases but according to the email with the code if they get more like they'll extend it to newbiews too.

So check it out if you want. http://www.facebook.com/OnLive

      Re: OnLive

Sucks that Arkham City got delayed so there won't be a chance to use this on it. I think I'll get AC Brotherhood.

Between the Playpack, $5 Fridays which end today, Pre-order bonuses, and deals like this OnLive is turning out a lot of really good deals.

I wish more people would give OnLive a chance. They're giving away so much stuff to bring people in

The issue from my end is that, there's no need. The selling point of OnLive is to try and get people who don't have gaming rigs, able to play on devices not built for it. I have a gaming rig, and thus would rather have a service like Steam to buy games from, for at the very least, I actually own the files to the games.

                Re: OnLive

Don't get me wrong, I prefer Steam too and the OnLive library is still not very good... but they're trying really hard to get people's attention through promotions and I think the potential for free stuff is good enough that everyone should be watching. Since the Onlive beta I've gotten:

                Borderlands: Free.
                Just Cause 2: Free.
Duex Ex: Human Revolution: 90 cents.

The launcher is a 4 second download and you never have to download any games, so it's just an icon that sits unused on my desktop until something good comes along like the 99% off deal that ran two weeks ago that got me Deus Ex.

I mean, if I told you last month that you could get the new Deux Ex game for 90 cents, and all you had to do was download OnLive now and make a free account, who wouldn't jump on that?

I also really enjoy the ability to instantly spectate anyone using the service with one click of a button, and think that feature would really shine if you had a lot of friends using it and chatting with.

That said, since I've switched to WiFi I've had some occasional connection issues during gameplay, so that's a negative to keep in mind in you have ping issues.

You also need hands but we're not discussing that, are we?

I also wouldn't be able to play it on max settings or have the ability to edit the files for modding/tweaking. As all those files, to my understanding, are on an external server.

                        Re: OnLive

You'd have a hard time convincing me that max settings and the access to mods are important enough to be a dealbreaker for a 90 cent purchase.

Not that I'm trying to get into a debate on that subject, I was just trying to prove that the potential for free/cheap games makes OnLive worth a download even if you never touch the thing.

OnLive just released their android app. iOS app and universal controller are coming soon. Downloading the app gets you LEGO Batman for free. There's also a sweepstakes to win an iPad 2 and the universal controller. Everyone who enters gets a 20% off code for a game.
