I can't find the direct quote but I'm pretty sure it was mentioned that Cyrodil was only 80% of Vvardenfell's total size (including Mournhold and Solstheim) including the Shivering Isles.

And I'm guessing Oblivion has fewer books, which is a downside to me.
Yeah Morrowind literally had about 1,200 pages of original prose and a bunch of critics placed it next to Planescape: Torment in terms of literary importance in video games.

There were a lot of cool things Oblivion had going for it like less loading times, combat that didn't blow hard, and a much better stealth system but I just don't care much for the generic high fantasy world. Morrowind's world was one of the most unique and original things I've seen in an RPG what with the African meets Japanese architecture and clothing.

All these other suggestions people are giving really are not even close to Morrowind.
King's Field isn't anything like Morrowind either except it's a fantasy game with first person combat. You might as well start comparing Arx Fatalis and Ultima Underworld to Morrowind as well.

Frankly there's no game JUST LIKE Morrowind because it's a huge and well crafted game and no developer has bothered to copy the formula like other easily copyable genres.

I didn't mean games that are identical. Just similar.
I compaired Morrowind to Fallout because of the similarities in depth, character customization, freedom of direction etc... The two games are quite diferent in many other aspects.

So far all the games suggested look like good ones. I'm really interested in Neverwinter Nights. Of the games mentioned I've played : Jade Empire and Baldur's Gate/Icewinddale(PC).

The Baldurs Gate (and Champions) games for ps2 aren't exactly what I'm talking about though. I own them, and while they're very addictive, they just don't offer the level of depth and immersion that I'm talking about. They're more akin to Diablo in my opinion. Still great games though.

I've also played Kingsfield IV. I think it was IV. I love this style of game, but the speed of movement in it was just too painful to put up with.

If you're looking for character customization and freedom of movement then check out Jagged Alliance 2 and Silent Storm. They're tactical action games with heavy rpg influences but they're really fun. JA2 also has one of the most humorous and colorful cast of characters I've seen in a game.

Baldur's Gate 2 is one of the best PC RPGs of all time, but it's also not like Morrowind.

But it depends on how you look at it. What I love about these games is the way you are sucked into the games world. One of the reasons I couldn't
stop playing Fallout (at the time) was because I just couldn't satisfy that feeling of "I just have to finish this next quest, then I'm off to bed...". It's like reading a great book. "I'm so tired I can barely keep my eyes open. But I'll just finish this next chapter and...". Morrowind Has given me this feeling again, which I miss about games. I'm actually loosing sleep because of it, which is a good thing IMO.

It's the feeling of creating the character you want to create, and building that character into what you want it to be. Plus the satisfaction you get from doing so. Also, games like these tend to be more mature which is something I reallly like. Yes they are often riddled with jokes, and in the case of Fallout alot of silliness at times (most of the monty python stuff comes to mind) the over all game is much more serious than your typical FF style RPG.
Games like this, for me anyway, have more of a true RPG/DnD feel to them (Baldur's Gate obviously ). They make you feel more like you're there in the story, instead of feeling like you're on the sidelines watching the story unfold.

So my opinion is that Baldur's Gate is a good example of what I am looking for, despite it's being totally different then Morrowind. It's not necessarily the game's mechanics/battle system/perspective that I'm after. I guess I should be more specific

Morrowind is boring. Everything looks beautiful and vast, but without any direction given to you for the main quest, it is too much. This is one thing that makes Oblivion much better. They show you where the main quest is and they let you go where ever the hell you want.

I dunno. I pretty much have no problem knowing where to go next. The problem I have is resisting the temptation to just go off and explore everything else first. That and constantly restarting my game when I first got it, because I just wasn't happy with the character I made. It's easy to get side-tracked yes, but having your journal to refresh your memory when you've spend hours doing everything else really helps.

You know at the beginning where you get off of that ship? I've been wondering around looking for where I need to go, ever since.

                      Morrowind was alright.

                      Oblivion is fantastic.

Of course to each their own, though.

Which is a fair opinion. The game's lack of direction is a big turn off for a lot of people but maaaan I love being overwhelmed with options. In pretty much any game that offers me even the smallest wealth of choices I take hours deciding. It took me 30 minutes to figure out which 1 of 3 classes I'd play in Diablo, double that time in Diablo 2, and Oblivion and Morrowind took me almost two hours in tweaking my character skills (Morrowind) and changing my character's appearance (Oblivion).

They make you feel more like you're there in the story, instead of feeling like you're on the sidelines watching the story unfold.
Give Dwarf Fortress a spin. It has a terrible user interface and it's about as friendly to newcomers as a game of Russian Roulette is but I'm telling you it will grab you by the balls once you learn all the keys and the subtle nuances of the game. It's still in alpha, but I love the idea of a persistent world. Every character in the game literally has a name and family tree and every fortress/adventurer you create has an impact in the game based on how popular they get or how long they last. It's really great doing something like surviving a goblin attack or taking down a demon and seeing your name appear in the list of legends then you can turn around and reclaim a fallen fortress or hear other NPC's talk about your previous adventurers.

...If you like the color brown.

Seriously, I've not seen or played a browner game.

                            I beg to differ.

Anyway, that MGS4 screenshot looks like the camera is in "Sepia" mode. Even the sky's brownish...

And one other thing about Morrowind... the people are UGLY. No matter what race, they're weird-looking and ugly. Of course, Oblivion didn't do too much to change that, either.

Sometimes I like to think that graphics in a video game don't really matter all that much if the game itself is great.

I may be alone on this one. I dunno.
