    Wii Live???

Interesting... Wii Pay & Play...sounds like X-Box Live Gold to me.

    http://kotaku.com/359754/nintendo-an...-wii-pay--play

Today, during a GDC presentation, Nintendo's Takashi Aoyama announced a new expansion to Nintendo's Wi-Fi services called Wii Pay & Play. Aoyama explained that Nintendo will begin "collecting fees for some services [that] will allow us to adapt flexibly." In other words, by subsidizing additional, unnamed service and feature costs to consumers, Nintendo feels they can explore new concepts and channels.

He added that it was a Nintendo initiative to avoid misleading consumers into thinking they can buy games that can be played entirely free when they cannot (whether or not this implies an initiative to begin charging for multiplayer content was unclear). To aid in a clear cost presentation, the blue WFC logo will be joined with a similar red logo featuring the line "Pay & Play."

sigh. it would of been nice to have one system that didnt charge to use online features but i guess in todays market where you can make money you will. the logo will confuse people i think.

a logo on games that says "pay and play" will confuse people?

            I don't see how.

I'm guessing most online games will remain free, but there's gonna be some server-intensive stuff (possibly MMO stuff) that they will need to charge for.

the logo will be "similar" and it will confuse existing customers who already enjoy the online portions of these games for free, but suddenly have a pay icon right beside the traditional free online capacity logo? looks confusing to me.

i also wonder if old games will be exempt from this or if they to will fall under the pay and play.

Maybe its for games like the upcoming Animal Crossing with rumored MMO features. Pay to play, that makes more sense. A "Wii Live" only seems too good to be true. I'm sticking with my prediction.

They should just rename it Mario Pay and Play and watch as the money pours it.

...which is what they've been doing for years, but I guess that's another subject.

Iwata already said they aren't interested in making any MMO effectively crushing those Animal Crossing rumors.

                      PS3 doesn't charge for online.

PS3 doesnt charge for online, but inevitably, some games for the system will require a monthly fee. the PS2 was free to play online, but both Everquest and FFXI had to be paid for.

Yeah but you need to pay to play games with features that you didn't pay for after playing the game.

Take it up with the MMORPG makers.
