Does one think that naming oneself Blackalicious is hip?

        Blackalicious is actually good, though.

Kirin, if you want stuff that is good, some of it hip hop, some of it just stuff with hip hop beats, sometimes downtempo, sometimes jazz, check out stuff on the record label Ninja Tune. Look for Funky Porcini, The Herbalizer, Kid Koala, some others I'm forgetting at the moment.

Also, in my last post, I forgot to mention Jurassic 5.

Yeah, I've been into Jurassic 5 for a while Keep the suggestiong coming though-- it's always nice to come across some artists that I actually like.
In the beginning the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and is widely considered as a bad move.

I didnt say they were bad I just figured they could come up with a more mature and original name.

If Blackalicious is a duo they should be called Blackalicious's, but alas, apostrophes and plural forms arent hip in this day and age

                    Re: The Death of Hip-Hop

Wow, this article targets one single subgenre of hip-hop. Yeah, that's fair.

Everything Perversion mentioned is good, some others I find worth mentioning:

                    Dr. Octagon
                    MF DOOM
                    Quannum
                    Talib Kweli
                    Mos Def
                    Blackstar
                    Blockhead

Early hip-hop is great too, like Grandmaster Flash.

Early gangsta is tight because it was just being ridiculous and over the top on purpose.

Also, Wu-Tang Clan, but they pretty much embody everything you dislike about the genre.

I just figured they could come up with a more mature and original name.
                    Okay.

I like Nelly and I love the previously aforementioned song by Akon, "I Wanna **** You." Try and tell me that refrain ain't catchy.

Oh yeah, we're talking about hip-hop here, silly me, how dare me bring up maturity about such a subject...

I think at this point hip-hop has distinguished itself from gangsta rap. I don't know if they're still calling it hip-hop or not but I'm talking about stuff like John Legend, that guy from the Gap commercials, and to an extent Kanye West. I think that kind of hip-hop deserves credit for being all musical and ****.
