Hey, my name is Hugbees and I'm new to RPG Maker Pavilion!

I recently decided to boot up RPG Maker 1 again after years of letting it sit in an attempt to create an RPG. I had this game for years, I've tried several times to create something, but I could never figure out how to work events, or even build a proper town.

I'm at it once more, and this time around I'm actually succeeding in creating an RPG. So far I've worked on it for about a week now and I'm liking how its coming out. Through trial and error (and to my surprise, much less error than expected ) I've been able to create a prologue for my game that I can safely say I'm proud of.

But enough about that, I just want to take a few moments to share some important details with you:

I only have RPG Maker 1, and probably will stick with it until I finish the game I'm working on. After that, I will most likely try RPG Maker 3, I've read it's a lot easier to make games with, but is more limited to what you can do.

Also I do not own a DexDrive yet. As much as I'd love to share a demo of my game, and play other games posted on the site, I will wait until the game I'm making is done or close to done before buying one.

So that's about it, and once again, Hello!

Welcome to the Pav! Congrats on getting started successfully--the first 20% is always the hardest part of making your game. While a majority of people are on 2/3 (especially 3), there's definitely a nice core of people still making games with RM1. Feel free to jump right into the forums, and have fun!

Welcome~ Work hard on learning all you can about RPG Maker and you'll more likely succeed. Good Luck!

Thanks for all of the welcomes so far! The game I'm working on now is kind of an exercise for me. I'm normally not too committed when doing long term things like this, but I really want to try to break this habit, and so far so good!

I'm a fellow only-has-RPG Maker 1-...fellow. I just wanted to say that before you buy a DexDrive, make sure you're able to insert a 9-pin serial plug into whatever computer you're using. My laptop has no where to plug one in, so the DexDrive I bought is essentially useless for the time being. Still, if you have a PS3, you can transfer the save files to a USB and upload them on your computer, and visa versa for certain RPGM1 games here.

Is there some sort of adapter I can use for that?

I asked some guy at RadioShack, and he had no idea. That's the only research I've done. If you find anything, let me know.

Well this raises another question, are dexdrives mac compatible? Meaning do I need special software to use it, or does it work like a flash drive?

The DexDrive is a tool to get the files from your PS1 memory card to you computer. It comes with software to read and manage these files (on a floppy disk, giggle). Pretty much if your Mac can't use the software, you're boned. However. there's a nice free way to check if it can - click the "tools" section of this website (on the left-hand column on the main page), and you can download this software for free. If you can run it, then you're all good.

Oh thats good, because I don't have a floppy drive, but then again, who does anymore?
