That Anti-GameStop Video That's Been Floating Around

A little surprised this didn't show up yet considering the one or two of you worked there, and the recent MY JOB SUX thread revealed that a majority of you suffer retail nightmares regularly.

    Well, here ya go.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_D45...eature=related

The narrator's a little mush-mouthed, the whole thing's painstakingly unoriginal, the animations are WAY too quick but if you got the time or wanna break it up into installments it's got a lot of well-written stuff to say (when you can understand it) about how ****ty the company is. Definitely worth a watch.

Now I really do gotta start eBaying all the crap I wanna get rid of.

But if you buy your games on eBay and they come broken, how much better is that than what Gamestop is offering?

I stopped shopping at EB a few years ago.

Used copys of games are only like $5 less than the new copys, but If I want to trade in my same copy of that game to them Ill only get about $10. Then they throw it onto the used shelf and charge $50 for it.

      Its a huge scam.

I traded Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank ToD to them last month for $25 a piece in credit, and that's almost exactly what those games are going for on Ebay. I think there was some deal where I got +$5 on both of the trades. Plus, I didn't have to deal with Ebay, so that was valuable.

I usually buy new just to support the game companies...

All that aside this video is a pretty bad zero punctuation rip off.

Gamestop is in business to make money. You didn't think you're losing out when you trade in games/buy used ones? Then you're an idiot. They have employees wages, rent, advertising costs, website fees, accounting fees, etc. They don't have anything close to a monopoly on video game sales, so if they're doing well then they're offering a service people want.

I just buy games at gamestop, never sell them. Usually it's only for new games now.

I would rather do business with Gamestop than Wal*Mart or Best Buy which are really my only other choices.

Why do people think they can just completely copy Zero Punctuation yet always suck at it?

Edit: Christ, I can't even watch the video because the ripoff ****** me off so much.

Yeah, really. It was sort of embarassing to hear him trying to talk fast like Yahtzee with his voice all MUMBLYMURF.

I don't even like Zero Punctuation, so it doubly sucks.

What message? Everyone knows gamestop rips people off on trading and has to mark up used product in order to make money cause they don't make anything on new games.

This really isn't anything ground breaking.

Paypal I don't totaly trust. They're not governed by the FDIC so they can do whatever with the money you give them.

It charges you approximately .75 each time you use it to buy something, charges you each time you check your balance, the PIN number system is always screwy (for some reason my card always got denied even though I'd reset the PIN number multiple times), there's NO ATM locally that you can withdraw from without incurring a 2-3 dollar fee, and it only lets you withdraw in $20 denominations. I've still about 12 bucks or so that got left behind on it.

Good luck trying to get another paycard if the ATM eats it after you try to get your money for the 10th time. I didn't have money for almost three months after I got hired because I'd to go through hell and back to get payroll to issue me another one.

I saw a brief mention of this, but I thought it important to re-emphasize that any "new" disc you buy that comes with an open game box probably isn't new. Since employees can check out games for 4 days at a time (including the NEW ones-- PC games too, be sure to check your registration codes), any opened box you receive is likely to have been played for upwards a week before being passed on to you. You can ask for the "shopworn 10% discount" if you receive an open box, and the cashier will usually give it to you.

Other thing I didn't notice him mention is how your traded-in merchandise is graded. If you're familiar with the trade-in process, you know that if your games/hardware are too damaged (even if you bought them used from GameStop that way) they'll apply a "refurbished" fee to it. This fee can easily reduce a trade in value by more than half. GameStop will take games without cases, but make sure to check your receipt to see if your games were "refurbed" for no reason. Plenty of times co-workers have tacked the "refurbished" fee onto customers' trades if they were being dicks or just for not having any cases, despite the discs being in mint condition.
In the beginning the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and is widely considered as a bad move.
