    Re: NINTENDO WII KILLS SOMEONE

I've always known radio stations to do crazy things, but I never dreamed this station in particular could stoop this low.

    Those monsters
That's going a bit far. I have a sneaking feeling it wasn't their intention to get someone killed. Call me crazy.

Most likely they, like everyone here, had no idea you could die from such a way.

That's not to say they shouldn't be held reponsible, of course.

Am I the only person who thinks the radio station shouldn't be held responsible?

Last I checked, they didn't FORCE her to do this.

Actually, if I'm reading the article right, they recommended NOT to put your health at risk for the contest.

^ but what did they expect people to do?

very few of us had heard of water intoxication before and while they perhaps should've known, they fairly obviously didn't. If i was going to run a contest that involved drinking large amounts of water, i hope i'd check on something like that first. i think the station holds some responsibility for not anticipating that people would actually drink a lot of water in order to win. Yeah, the woman is also responsible for her own body, admittedly.

all the same, i seem to be hearing about this kind of contest quite often. I mean, there are eating contests in all kinds of things (which i personally think are pretty disgusting, but ok..), as well as innumerable stupid and risky contests run like this on various radio stations. The entire phenomenon strikes me as pretty stupid.

Well, she experienced severe symptoms also, according to the article. If things got as bad as I think they did, I personally would've forfeited and went to the bathroom. There are other, safer ways for me to get a Wii.

            As a matter of fact...

It's not the radio stations fault at all.

It could've been a Who Can Take The Most Gun Shots Contest too, but that doesn't mean you have to participate.

I have to assume that they didn't know this could happen, and thus didn't warn the participants ahead of time. It's encouraging suicidal behavior (if unintentionally) and I feel the radio station should be civilly liable, but there's no reason any of them need to sit in jail for 10 years, either.

Those monsters should be criminally prosecuted.
Wow, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

                  Wait, I was wrong.

Fun fact: IRC is always wrong.

WII SHOULD HAVE A "PROVE IRC RIGHT CONTEST." But someone would probably die.

Yeah, I don't know which is worse. The radio station encouraging people to drink excessive amounts of water and holding their bladders, both can lead to death, or contestants willingly putting their life’s at danger for something as futile as a videogame console.

We need an emote with a guy sighing with his hand to his forehead, that sums up my thoughts on this nicely.

I never knew holding it in could kill ya..
                            Fascinating. Horrible, but interesting..

Today’s lesson: Don’t risk your health for materialistic things.. Unless of course it’s the Nintendo Wii.

I CAN SEE A MOVIE BEING MADE ABOUT IT RIGHT NOW.
WATER OF DEATH: BEGINS - Tagline: "If ya gotta go, ya gotta go" - RATED PG-13 - Starring the Rock and Adam Sandler
There will be of course 2 more sequels, regardless of the box-office outcome.
                            WATER OF DEATH: RETURNS
                            WATER OF DEATH: RESURRECTION (Direct-to-DVD)

.. Where's the trailer guy when you really need him..

It's like if at the beginning of Jackass instead of a disclaimer saying "DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME" it said "DO THIS AND WIN A PRIZE". I don't think the stations should be held liable for her specific death although I'm sure they will be but there's punishments that come along with holding a dangerous contest in itself that they definitely should face regardless of whether they knew about the risk.
