    Units in a CBS

I'm working on an action battle system, which that part I'm well adjusted to. However, I now want to have the battle start as a random encounter before going in to the battle system.

I could make multiple maps and have sets that way sure, but that'd be a lot of memory used compared to just finding the unit I'm using to start the battle before the battle actually starts (random encounters use units and unit placement, so I thought that way was best).

Is there a better way to check the unit or enemy that triggered the battle before it starts? Or is there a better way to make a cbs as a random encounter? Any advice is well appreciated!

When the enemy is encountered, assign the group a variable, which the battle checks to know what enemies should be in it.

What kind of action battle system? Like zelda? Or something different? What Dray says would be your best bet, but depending on what type of action battle system you're using may need a different method.

Wow, thanks! I know I'm way late but that's because when I figured out the way to do it I've been working on my game pretty much the whole time. I'm 90% done with it and have memory to spare for extra side mission or mini games stuff like I wanted! Couldn't thank you enough!

Now I just need to find a max drive online to upload it when it's done.

You can use a regular flash drive i think anything under 8gb will work. And the CD of course.

Woah, really?! I've been sitting on some finished projects for rpg maker 2 a while now and looking for a max drive to upload them but couldn't find one. But I have a bunch of flash drives so I guess that works out! That's good to know! Is the process the same too?

As in putting your saves on the flash drive just like a max drive? Then yes, you just have to have the CD that can transfer saves from your memory card to a flash drive, if you have a decent computer, PS2 emulation is 100% feasible now and transferring saves is much much easier. But if not the method mentioned above should work.

Got it. So in my case I should only need that particular cd then. Is it just any old cd or is there a certain kind? Sorry if I'm like prying a bit, it's just I've never uploaded a game and really wanted to get my rpgm2 projects up there! Is there a certain line of CDs made for transferring ps2 data? There's a surprising lack of YouTube tutorials for this sort of thing, you know?

You would need either a Codebreaker or Action Replay, they're relatively cheap. And honestly I have both if you can't find them anywhere send me a message and I can mail em both to you, I don't own a physical PS2 anymore, nor will I ever again.

Oh wow! I mean if you're really willing to part with it then thanks! Also an update: the game is now entirely beatable! I just have to throw on those extras I planned for, but the main story chunk is finnette! Thanks again for the unit help, guys!
