To go along with Chuck's question, I read some time ago that the GC PSO servers had been shut down (but it was obviously possible to play through private servers), but that the Xbox servers were still up and running. Granted, I read this probably a year ago, but does anyone know if the Xbox PSO servers are indeed still up and active?
Despite an announcement of an April 30 closure for the Xbox servers, Sega and Microsoft did not honor the date. The servers were not re-activated after Xbox Live maintenance on April 22nd. The result of this was that the Xbox players did not receive the promised last week of PSO online service.
Looks like the official servers for all versions of PSO are gone. Guess they wanted everybody to switch over to PSU.
Yeahhhhhhhh....like no one plays this game anymore.
It's kinda BS that they're charing me to run around in their empty servers, I'd take some in-game ads if it meant I didn't have to.
The thing that irks me about it is with the clubs and clothing and everything there's really some potential for the game to have a huge social community much like some other MMOs like Star Wars Galaxies (where I would spend many nights just hanging out talking with people I met in the game) but the game doesn't encourage it by making some sub classes or abilities to do things socially (star wars galaxies had sub classes that let you do things like alter other people's appearances or even make clothes (making it possible to have current clothings in the game made with colors that weren't available on default) dance and such). And those things sound stupid and all but honestly it is little details like that that do make persistant online worlds work better. So they added in the expansion stupid things like exercise rooms and they don't even have the smallest effect on anything.
Boo Sega.
Buuuuttt, the PSO-esque mines and forest levels are sick. Too bad you still have to navigate through that terrible mission selection system to get anywhere.
We regret to announce that the PC and PlayStation2 servers for Phantasy Star Universe will be closing as of this March 31st, 2010.
If you’ve played on PC/PS2 recently, you also likely know why we are shutting these servers down. The population is simply too low for us to be able to continue to support this platform.
I never played the PC version. The 360 demo ran great. PS2 was blurry and would run slowly if there was too much happening on screen. I'm amazed the servers were still running.
