Re: Final Fantasy XII Collector's Edition

    Faye Wong is love.

"Eyes on Me" remains to this day as one of my favorite Final Fantasy vocal selections.
Despite what you think, I am very, very real.

It IS the best. The other songs just haven't been as good as the original.

Angela Aki does a better "Eyes on Me."

The gambit system worries me a bit about the battle system. But that's about all I know about the game. As far as the music goes I hope it's good. Almost all of the Final Fantasies have had terrific OSTs. They just need to enlist this guy if they wish to make a truly amazing soundtrack.

I thought "Isn't it Wonderful?" from FFX by Rikku was a nice one as well. A very emotional, sad yet riveting piece.

It was by Rikki. And I thought that she had a too-delicate voice that couldn’t reach the range required by the song, and I also thought the melody was a little awkward and halting.

Agreed. Yet, the orchestration embodied a sort of sad ambience--a far cry from the theme songs that came before it. I'm not sure if there was an English version of that song since I never got the chance to beat FFX.

Typically, at the end of a Final Fantasy game, (or the beginning in some aspects) we'd also hear a little of the Final Fantasy theme song. The best example of this was FFVI. At the very end of that, after all the medleys and leitmotifs were finished, we heard that theme song. Many people consider FFVI's ending theme music to be one of Uematsu's finest works yet. (All MIDI too, yet the song still had that effect on you. You remember it like a childhood memory.)

I also enjoyed FFIV's ending music. What a song. I have the soundtracks to both FFIV and VI and never get tired of listening to them.

1000 Words (in English) takes the cake.

"Suteki da ne" was never in English. Which also makes it drop in status in my eyes.

His style just wasn't what I like, plus he never graduated from MIDIs...
At least the MIDIs were high quality. Except in FF7. That was hit and miss. And the music during the credits was just plain miss. I mean really, you'd think music on a system more powerful than the SNES would have music at least on par with it's prequel's music. Heck, FF6's ending theme was of noticeably higher quality than most anything I've heard on the SNES (and is actually what made me decide that it should be the first and so far FF soundtrack to buy). But some of the "instruments" in FF7 were so synthetic-sounding I couldn't help but cringe at hearing them.

Unfortunately, FFX lacks that song completely.

Speaking of ending themes, though, I heard Nobuetsu contributed the end theme to FF12. I also heard that it sound really out of place.

So about this Special Edition. Is it only available through pre-order at specific stores?

It's available only at GameStop and EBGames. Yes, you can reserve your copy, so if you're interested, I encourage you to get it!

I heard some of that ending theme from FF12. It's a nice piece of work, and Uematsu had a lot to do with it. Typically, Uematsu is no longer completely involved with further FF game soundtracks, leaving them instead to lesser known composers. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that he's just going to contribute to some main themes and ending compositions.

Unfortunately, FFX lacks that song completely.
Indeed, that was a huge disappointment. The only recognizable FF themes found in X were the Chocobo theme and the Fanfare. They didn't even include the Prelude......

The Prelude was in there. It was at the beginning of the game, when Tidus got off the boat to give autographs. It just was remixed more upbeat.

The composer of FF12 I think is the same person who composed for Final Fantasy Tactics. Or maybe I'm getting my people crossed.

I'm sure the end theme of FF12 sounds nice. But to my understanding, it's a love song in a game where love isn't a big theme (FINALLY).

That's correct. Hitoshi Sakamoto. He's done work for Ogre Battle, Tactics Ogre, and a few other games, even Gradius V.

I think a love theme is there, but it doesn't get in the way of the main story. The story of FF12 is probably the most compelling out of all the Final Fantasies.....in my opinion.

Seems to have more twists and turns than a New York Pretzel. Not that there's anything WRONG with that!
