No hurry on my part. And just for reference, I'm only playing this one round.

        Valkysas married Nixon?

        Scandalous.

The log of Translucid Berzon, maker of soap, temporary leader of Staffmastered

            1st Granite, 203

By Armok, why me. Ohhhh, dear. Why, why me.
I write now in a state of great distress, as our expedition leader, came by as I was, well, doing nothing in my room. That's why I'm a soapmaker; what dwarf uses soap? So I really don't have to do anything. Until now. For as I was staring at my cave ceiling, hoping it never collapses, Valkyrie Sass entered and told me that I was to see to the state of Staffmastered for a year. Apparently, for the last year, our fortress was being run by some crazy bone carver! Small wonder there's a giant ballista outside randomly pointed at a hill face.

I begrudgingly accepted the position, as Valkyrie wished. I cannot turn down a wish of our leader.

Right behind Valkyrie was our Sheriff, who has taken the fanciful notion of calling himself the "Knight of Dreams." It's silly, but I don't to be forced to build my own prison, so I take it as seriously as I can. He demanded an upgrade of housing to fit his position. I supppose that will be one of my first tasks.

I demanded our stonesmoothers to smooth out a ridiculously large piece of land. It should get them off my mind for a while.
I'll also start getting this place wagon accessible.

            10th Granite

Blast, elven caravan. They come bringing bactrians and other stupid animals. I never had to worry about the caravans before, as elves don't care to buy soap made by a dwarf (I thought the ale scent of my soap was a nice touch). But now I suppose I shall have some lackeys drag over some crafts to trade for their stupid silk socks or what have they.

Oh great, batmen. They look so goofy, but they can be dangerous. One is chasing the elves now. It brings to mind the famous theme of the Benjamin Hill Comedie Circuse.

But things turn ugly when Ruyavasele, the infamous skeletal eagle of our parts murders an elf in plain sight.

I hurry the stone masons outside to quit their jobs and run to safety. Our bowyer, Big of Feet, is daft enough to run to try to grab a free sock. I forbid any dwarf from touching dead elf bits, so he comes back inside,
and we all watch the batman feed on the dead elf.

            Elves - 0, Batmen - 1.

            more to come later.

If Marcus Beardmeister were still running things he'd have ballista-ed the batman while the wrestlers killed the eagle with their beards (

              *sigh* can't win everything.

Translucid, if you could when your turn's over, take a screenshot of the entire playing field in the Esc menu. I'd like to see how far the fortress has progressed.

A black bear drank a whole lot of our wine.
He's probably passed out in the stockroom now.

At some point, Valk married Funk.

                  6th Slate
Some nobodies started trickling in. Some of them may be useful, some of them I might just tell to go fishing.
Valk also became mayor! Lousy sunnofa*****. I'm doing all the work!

                  9th Slate
Another batman appears, causing people to simultaneously run and vomit in horror.
In attempting to fell the beast, "Denethor," our trapper, has died. He will be given proper burial. As soon as Valk stops taking all the stuff off of his body.

I also slyly inducted myself into the fortress guard. Haha, I'll never have to work again.

                    21st Felsite
One of our craftsdwarves has been struck by a mood. However, he's just standing in the dining room, being crazy. I fear that we may not have whatever obscure instrument he needs to produce the object of his dreams.

                    20th Hematite
Well, he needed a leatherworks. Unfortunately, we'll have to slaughter some dogs for leather.
Highwind became mayor at some point. Also he fell in love with Gloom. Isn't that nice?

                    16th Malachite
Finally getting a ramp put in to get to the trade depot. We'll have wagons this fall yet.

                    28th Malachite
Argh, finally got that stupid scamp his leather. Our petting zoo is missing a muskox, though.

                    4th Galena
And he produced a shirt made of dog leather. Surely, people will clamor for their own dog leather shirts.

                    should finish my turn tonight.

Re: Pavilion Dwarf Fortress - Staffmastered Begins

                      21st Limestone
The wagons have come, bringing our anticipated anvil. A proper metalworking area is being carved out as I write this. In trading off all of our pesky craft bins, we also received plenty of food for the coming winter, and an abundance of leather and cloth for bags and clothes to be made in excess. We got most of what we wanted for what we had, and I was pleased with the transaction.
For the next year, I requested many, many more metal bars, as we haven't found any alloy strains yet.
As to what they request for next year, here is the list.

                      20th Sandstone
Er, I'm unconscious? I sustained some sort of wound to my ARM, which somehow affected my HEAD. Well ****. I thought the fortress guard was going to be easy. I was, obviously, wrong.
Hopefully I'll just wake up soon. A stoneworker also was taken by a mood. Well la dee da, I'm UNCONSCIOUS. Now he wants rough gems. I can't find any! He can bite my beard for all I care.

                      7th Timber
Another skeletal eagle descends from the skies, scaring a few, killing a dog. We managed to chase it away. Haven't been able to find any rough gems, as much of our digging space is bounded in by water. We dig deeper.

                      3rd Moonstone
After much digging, we finally uncovered some green tourmaline. Now we can give the brute what he needs.

                      7th Moonstone
He produced a granite crown. Great, he made it out of the dumbest rock available. He did manage to produce a reference to the dog leather shirt on the crown. A value of 52,800, though, is nice. Also I'm still in a coma.

                      8th Opal
Winter drags on. Work on metal crafts begins, and we start building a supply of coal and smelted ore. We've killed 2 kobold thieves so far... We'll have to prepare for the inevitable goblins. And I'm still in a coma.

                      21st Opal
A skeletal goat enters the fortress, but he is dispatched by a recruit. I'd give him a goat medal, but, well, you know.

                      20th Obsidian
Funk gave birth to a girl, through Valkysas. That Valk gets around.

                      1st Granite
A whole year. It wasn't so bad. As far as I remember, only one dwarf died. I'm still in a coma, but I leave a detailed report for the next unlucky leader.

                      Large version below-ground

Couldn't fit a large version of the topside view into my photobucket account. If you want Den, I'll just send it to you.

                      YEAR REPORT:
Nobles' demands and quarters are taken care of
Currently have one anvil and metalworking area, with different ores on hand
                      Tons of food
                      Good amount of drinks
                      Producing a ton of crafts
Located a few sources for ore and minerals
Lots of cabinets, chairs, weapon racks, etc. for incoming nobles
Unfortunately, a military mainly composed of wrestlers, but this can be fixed when new weapons are smelted
                      No work on tower done
I probably messed up a few levers?

Barring total catastrophe, this fortress should continue for a while. I'm doneeeeeeee

                        SPRING, 204

                        1st Granite

I've arrived after my journey to Staffmastered. After tripping over half a dozen dogs, and nearly stepping on a puppy I've found myself an empty room to sit and rest. I don't know how I get myself roped into these jobs, this place needs some work.

                        8th Granite

I've set plans for more bedrooms to be made, as there seems a great shortage. Thus far I've only seen Gloom pick up a pick, apparently the promise of private quarters isn't enough to make them work.

                        12th Granite

Struck native copper near the new bedrooms. More picks and axes will probably be made. More wood will be needed for beds and smelting.

                        17th Granite

An ambush! Curse them! Seven Goblins! Some armorer ran circles around them for awhile. Finally Smurvis and Perverse and 2 other soldiers caught up to the armorer and the 2 goblins that could keep up.

They were quickly dispatched, though now the remaining goblins have regrouped in the edge of the woods near the entrance where they first appeared.

A champion rushed in, entering a martial trance as one of the goblins enraged. He took 3 down in the brawl, before tiring and retreating as Perverse, Smurvis and another ran to his aid.

An elven caravan arrived days ago, though Valk is too busy. Someone should tell him it's not a party if it happens every night. ArrPeggy Designer eventually got around to buying all of their lowest priced Rope Reed Cloth, as that is all they even had.

                        3rd Felsite

A Dungeon Master and some Migrants arrive. Going to get them to work on wood-cutting for beds and smelting, still. Maybe make a few more masons to get some furniture for all the bare rooms.

                        17th Felsite

Nothing much to report. Occasional cleanup of Skeletal Hoary Marmots that skulk outside the gates. The additional bedrooms are getting along. Up to 85 dwarves in this cramped cave.

                        SUMMER, 204

                        Summer

                        12th Hematite

Human Caravan arrives. Traded lots of rock crafts for various items. Bars, bags, seeds, cloth. Lots, and I mean lots of leather. Cloth, Food. Some anvils. Requested bars, weapons, and bags from the next wagons.

                        17th Hematite

Goufunaki has been elected Mayor. Fair enough, all that Highwind did was mandate bags to be made, and tell jokes that no one got.

                        24th Hematite

The housing project is moving along. Most everyone has a place to sleep, and needed amenities. This is sure to increase productivity all around. It will continue until I'm sure there are rooms enough for the next travelers. Unsure what my next project should be.

                        11th Malachite

Some rooms still need furnished. Expanding to the north for another dining room and more shop and stockpile space.

                        22nd Galena

An Ambush! Curse Them! 5 goblins. 2 with spears, 1 with bow, and 2 unarmed. What are they thinking? This should be an easy fight. I've previously stationed some war-dogs at both entrances, mainly to keep away the stealthy kobolds. That may be the reason the goblins are keeping their distance.

After ordering everyone inside, Fred, Perverse and 5 others have gathered beyond the bridge to do battle, with Smurvis running in from behind as I make the order to move in.

As the front-line approached the goblin archer let loose a few arrow, while our marksmen fired volleys onto the hill where the battle began. In the hail of fire, a champion and leader of one of the 2 squads fell. Perverse rose in his stead to lead his fellow dwarves.

After taking the weapons and shields (goblin clothes are much too small) from the corpses of our newly slain foes, life resumed as normal, minus one. I must say, for having fewer in number than the last raid, and standing against more, those goblins put up a much better fight. This is troubling.

                        AUTUMN, 204

                        12th Limestone

Dwarven merchants have appeared. I traded crafts, and much of the goblin clothes, oh my, the money they payed for those useless outfits I collected off those corpses was mind-boggling! I bought bars and gems of all kinds! *swoons* And...

                        THERE IS A SIEGE.

I count 10 various goblin invaders. No doubt they are ready for a battle. They don't seem to be coming to us, so I'll try to take some time to outfit the troops with armor. Their numbers have already increased to 17 as I've written this. Time to start the draft. I've assembled 14 dwarves into one squad, "The Spread Lanterns".

The goblins are on the far west side of the bottomless pit, and not budging, after some more prep-time, we will take the fight to them.

                        18th Limestone

Water skins are filled, and rations have been handed out, everyone should be geared as best they can, it's time to gather at the gate and kill some goblin filth!

As the goblins streamed down from the west peak next to the pit, marksdwarves littered them with arrows, dropping 2 before they could meet us. The fight was a success, with no casualties on our side. Huzzah! More expensive clothing to gather and sell.

I'm updating in my previous post. But, saying so here so you know. I'm trying to push through, but I run DF at about 15 FPS so, it takes awhile for time to pass.

And, granted that there are tons of things I don't know about the game. One table and one chair is a set. The dining rooms with one table surrounded by chairs is a waste of chairs.
