    Re: Pavilion Dwarf Fortress

Just generate your own world, save a snapshot, and we'll pick from that. I don't want to play from someone else's.

I might be interested in joining, but I think I need to learn a bit more before I attempt a stab at it

        Re: Pavilion Dwarf Fortress

after your 3rd or 4th fortress (the previous ones being abandoned because you learned more and wanted to start over) you basically have what you need to know in order to actually sustain a fortress effectively.

of course, that's probably about 25 hours of playing, so a bit of a steep learning curve...

          This.

I have no idea how to do anything with this game or how to control anything.

You don't learn anything with it until you dive headlong into it. Give it a chance~

You don't control anything and this was the biggest hurdle to my learning the game when I first played it.

All characters have a mind of their own. What you do is assign orders and your dorfs will carry them out when they feel like it which is based on how they're feeling.

The game is basically fantasy Sim City. All you're doing is building stuff. Once you figure out what the symbols mean the rest of the game pieces fall into place. You can use tiles if it makes you feel better but I prefer the extended ASCII because the tiles are poorly contrasted against the black background and things can get really cluttered.

Here's a world I generated with some markings for understandability. I also marked out 3 possible spots that I found using the search function in the embark screen. We can pick those OR go wherever. This map is dominated by haunted areas, seems perfect to me!

#1's a good spot. We don't need many trees with magma available and I hate elven merchants.

Except #1 has no magma. That's why I put an X next to it. REason it's on the map is because it has other fun things that nobody talks about in public.

                        Re: Pavilion Dwarf Fortress

Eh, magma isn't really necessary when we have a decent number of trees to burn. I like building ridiculous magma traps and creating indoor heating but it's not really necessary in a temperate area.

so that's one vote for #1, any others?

I'd really like magma, and if we choose terrifying then the fort might die before it even starts. So I'ma go for 3.

                                1 or 2.

                                If I play.

Which I will probably have to use tiles though.
