Re: PS3 has cost Sony 3 BILLION DOLLARS!

Valk...is capitalizing? This is madness! What has happend!? This forum has gone crazy!

On a different note, I agree with you Perv. I, unlike most people, have actually read your wall of text. I have to say I agree with you on the most part. The only thing is, gamers might not want to wait to see what Sony has in store with the PS4. If Sony does wait and bring out the PS4 two or three later after the next Xbox, gamers might not wait for Sony's next~gen graphics, even if Sony does out-power the next Xbox.

Valk, they did that for everyone, not just for specific games. That is why we saw some PS2 games at $40 and even $30 on a regular basis.

That is not the same as MS paying a specific developer to make a specific game exclusive.

They did magically happen to create a next-gen looking game on the weakest of the last-gen systems though, and that still shocks me.
Yeah. MGS3 and FF12 also look as good or better than some current-gen software.

Curious: What are the exclusives Microsoft paid for everyone cares about? I thought everyone hates GTA and Halo anyway. And who really cares about Rare? =P

What PS3 games ARE coming out we're all supposed to look forward to? What PSP games for that matter? When will the PSN Store finally have something worth a damn?

As far as I'm aware, the ONLY Nintendo system that has EVER had a problem is the NES (blowing in the carts, etc). Everything else has been problem-free. My guess is, they are not ramping up production due to avoid having all the newly-converted Nintendo fans (ie-casual gamers) buy Wiis with problems, and thus get a bad taste in their mouth (of Nintendo, and also of gaming in general).
Eh, I was just mentioning that some people think Nintendo's keeping the supply low to artificially inflate demand and profits. I'm kind of in agreement with Perversion here; the way I see it, it's just more of Nintendo's usual conservative business practices again. Overall, I'm not terribly interested in the Wii, so it does't matter too much to me.

Moving on to the PS3. What you people FAIL to realize (you people being the naysayers) is that Sony is also making an investment for the future, and is sacrificing in the short-term. Sure, they are losing money hand over fist on the PS3 right now, but here are some facts to consider. Sony systems, up to this point, have had ten year lifespans (give or take), and Sony has even stated more than once that they intend for their systems to last a decade.
Yeah, I've read that about Sony. It might even work for them over the long run too. Microsoft might be taking the 5 year approach from their experiences with PCs.

The big problem for Sony right now is that the PS3 has yet to be considered a must-have system. The only big exclusive game I can think of offhand is MSG4, maybe Uncharted as well. There've been a few other exclusives, but I don't really know how much they're driving demand for the PS3. Many of the other big games out there are multiplatform.

Exclusives are an important element to consider when comparing consoles. If someone can afford to buy every console, then they probably won't worry too much. A consumer who can only afford to invest in 1 console (such as myself), however, may make that decision based on exclusivisity.

^ This. What is the point of having HD when the majority doesn't have HD compatable TVs?

nope. the licensing fee for PS2 games, no matter what the game's MSRP was planned to be was(is?) $8 per copy. Sony cut that amount in some exclusivity deals which lead to a higher profit for the company if they took the deal.

I dont think so Valk, but i'll trust your judgement on this one, mostly just because this has gotten to the point of nitpicking, and once it gets to that point the debate just isnt enjoyable or productive anymore.

Yeah, who cares about Rare NOW. Now that they're making crap.

As for the PSN: PixelJunk Monsters, Everyday Shooter, Gran Turismo HD Concept (is worth the price tag of free), old PSX games, echochrome might be your thing, Warhawk, Lemmings, Tekken 5 with online play.

Nothing's stopping you from playing your PS2 for another 2-3 years. Except the fact that you don't currently own one, I mean.
