We all know online's pretty ****ed but what about the game itself? I've been hearing lots of complaints, mostly within my circle, about how certain mechanics work ... and don't work. The Havok physics are getting a lot of ire, especially how knocking into a guy off the stage would kill him too even when he had a shot at recovering. That causes a lot of thrown controllers. And how kills can easily be "stolen", i.e. a Nikita missile from Snake would get the kill instead of Ike's Final Smash.

Also, do you think any items or characters are overpowered/too cheap? Do you (want to) ban certain items or characters? The common targets around here are definitely the Curry, the Fan, the Final Smash, the Star Fox characters (Wolf especially) and the Ice Climbers. Basically, the items that rack up huge amounts of damage and leave the player banging away at buttons hopelessly because they're stuck. Or even levels? The Green Hill Zone is much-maligned for its sudden holes. Me? I just love the music.

Do any of these factors affect the enjoyment of your game? For me, it's all the *****ing and moaning that irks me. I usually play just fine and just chalk it up to different skill levels. If someone's constantly getting the Final Smash and the advantageous items maybe they're just the better player.

Still, it sucks to constantly lose against someone who's really good as Falco. The Star Fox guys are walking ****ing fortresses. I'm just not gonna win against them.

Similar thoughts, complaints? The game's been out for a little while now and we're all getting used to its intricacies and noticing little tears here and there I'm sure. I'm curious what everyone else thinks.

Another thing: How does Brawl stack up against Melee? Do you think the game would be as good without the Nintendo characters/fanservice?

Scratch that, that would be fun.

But yes, thats an invalid arguement.
Raiden proved that MGS is still a great game without Snake but people will b**** about it regardless.

I loved MGS2. Maybe I can prove my point better by saying that Metal Gear the VR Missions was a very bland and boring game. Of course more games are ten times less engaging if you take out the aesthetics.

Hell, you can't just eat frosting and call it a cake.

I'd argue that it was bland and boring because it removed crucial parts of the MGS series: the story and characters. The gameplay is golden, but you can't play it in a vacuum for eternity.

I was agreeing with you, Bigfoot. I think.

I can agree, considering that I didn't like Portable Ops since it was lacking in story.

The fact is though that Smash Brothers is built around these characters, and many characters oddly enough play similarly to their game counter parts. The characters in Brawl are just as crucial to the game, as much as MGS as you pointed out.

The only difference is that if you strip it down, I think MGS would still be fun if it was a completely different set of characters and objectives (Snake vs. Monkey?) whereas if Smash Bros. wasn't a wacky Nintendo-centric fighter and instead the same game with a Ken and Ryu knock-off... :s

                  Who cares?

Seriously? Who really cares? We already know the bland fighter isn't as fun (virtua fighter)

The Starfox characters are overpowered? This is the first time I've heard of that. One of my friends loves playing as Wolf but I manage to take him out without too much difficulty.

I honestly haven't noticed any characters who are generally "cheap", except maybe Ike, but even then, only in a group battle where I'm not able to focus on him, so his sword sometimes seemingly comes out of nowhere and kills me.

I play Stock Battle so Bowser's Suicide move is good for eleminating your opponent's last life when you have two or more.

One of the greatest things about this game is the "stock & time" option. That was always the worst part of playing with new players. They would sit there and argue which was better or more fun (which essentially was which ever one they were better at) or use it as an excuse as to why they didn't win.

"Oh I usually play stock, that's why you beat me."

                          Now there is no excuse.

                          "We're playing both."
Took me 15 minutes to remember how to change my signature, and this is all I came up with.

Well yeah, but once again your arguement is invalid.

MGS could be fun with new characters, it can still carry over that MGS feel and aesthetic.

Smash Brothers was built with the characters of the Nintendo universe in mind.

This is where your arguement fails to make sense to me.

Sure you could say "Look at Onimusha Blade Warriors, thats pretty much Smash but with Onimusha characters, and see that game is crap."

That arguement there would only be valid if you took out the fact that Smash Brothers is still an all around better and more polish in depth fighter.
