Hee, hee!!!! I'm surprised to see that someone has noticed my habit of doing this...although I cannot take full credit for it. I look at the "Who's Online" section a lot, and always notice that guests are always looking at old threads. Sometimes I click on them to read what they have to say, and if it's anything that's relevant in my current life, I will post in them. I really do not have the patience to search through all those old threads for something interesting myself, so I let the guests do it for me...

btw, setting your PS2's Playstation drive's disc speed to fast while playing Chrono Trigger kills the load times.
Not in my experience. It takes off maybe a second, two at the unlikely most. There's still an annoying pause at the start/end of battles, between maps, and going in/out of the menu.

The cool-but-choppy anime cutscenes are the only reason I'm sticking with it.

I compared the times by using a PS1 and a PS2. IMO, the load times our almost non-existant (Also, put in the fact that my laser lens on both were clean).

I just tried it on my PS2. Load times before/after battle reach 3 seconds (I understand it's almost instantaneous on the SNES), opening/closing the menu take about the same time, moving between similar-looking rooms take about a second, and going between the world map and an area takes about 3 or 4 seconds. I don't mind the load times going from room to room, but the pause when a battle starts/ends is annoying, and no menu should ever take more than a second to load and unload.

I really don't understand how 2D games could have any load times at all, even on a disc-based system. Heck, Final Fantasy 4 has no load times on PS1 at all. At least in America; I heard the load times were atrocious in Japan. I've seen 3D PS1 games that have faster load times than PS1 Chrono Trigger.

Well, it all still has to be cached, doesn't it?

Here's something I read about that made me very angry:

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrono_trigger

Poor conversion of the cartridge to the PlayStation's compact disc medium caused many common actions, like opening a menu screen or beginning a battle, to take several seconds due to load time, much to the unpleasant surprise of many gamers. Baffling fans, Square Enix did not correct this problem with the Greatest Hits re-release of Final Fantasy Chronicles.
Which means they COULD have fixed it, but they were too LAZY.

Well Dray, I don't know what to tell ya....

About Square not correcting the conversion, I've known about it and this is still my response....

              **** YOU SQUARE.

Considering their current streak of porting the Anthology/Chronicles game again, I'm kinda hopeful that they're going to put Chrono Trigger on GBA or DS. Actually, preferably DS. The battle system could make decent use of the touch screen, and those game cards have enough capacity to hold those animated cutscenes from the PS1 game.
