I ask this to you because the Hopewell school systems in Virginia (my home state) decided very recently that they would not only observed MLK day as a school-free day, but the following day, the inauguration of Barack Obama as well. Using the 20th of January as a holiday means that President's day, a school holiday observed in Februrary, would be deemed a school day (much to the chagran of many parents). My mom also told me that the Petersburg city schools may also be following suit. Now, I ask once again: what do you think of this matter?

Re: Should Obama's Inauguration Be Considered a Holiday?
While celebrating this year as inauguration is all fine and well I think we are getting ahead of ourselves naming schools after and declaring new national holidays over a president that has yet to really prove anything.
Then again there is a Nixon school isn't there?Last edited by DK; 01-16-2009, 01:29 AM.

You're off by like 7-8 years, dude.Originally posted by Red Dragon View PostY'know. I wonder if he will be a good president.
So far the only real thing he has going for him is that he beat a 65 year-old republican.

Even so. Beating some old dude everyone disliked that had a running mate everyone disliked even more isn't enough for a holiday.
Let's see if he will be a good president first.
Because I seriously doubt he will be as great as people think he will.Last edited by Red Dragon; 01-16-2009, 02:03 AM.

Oh no doubt it's very important and inspirational. But I think making it a national holiday would be setting a bad example. Tuesday is the day work starts. You don't celebrate the day work starts by taking the day off.
I mean, that's just too black of a thing to do.

But in all seriousness.
We've already celebrated his election into Presidency. The inauguration is just the finalization. Not as big an event as election night, IMO.Last edited by Denmo; 01-16-2009, 03:57 AM....and that's why.
