Black History Month

It's that time of the year again, except there's an extra day to celebrate due to leap year. I know there may be some who think I shouldn't be so anal about this , but I honestly feel this routine gets dryer every year. Why not do what McDonald's does and celebrate Black History 365 days of the year, rather than commit to the shortest month of the freaking year?

Or we could accept that black history month only helps segregate people even more, by enforcing the idea of black people being different from everyone else and need to be singled out, and in doing so, be incredibly unfair to every other race on the planet, none of which have their own month for celebrating all their contributions.

I believe black history month is stupid. integrate it with normal history. there's no reason to single just one race out for a month.

Only because black history month exists. The dont teach black history any other time of the year, so they can save it all for february.

My history teacher in 10th grade honestly told me this.

I can see how Black History Month was necessary back when textbook publishers would actually skip over contributions by black people. But those days are pretty much behind us now. Now if anybody writes anything that doesn't include at least two blacks, a hispanic, and a gay/lesbian some activist group jumps in. So now Black History Month just makes the history teachers skip over the black events to save them for February so they have something to talk about other than George Washington Carver and Garrett A. Morgan.

Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept 15 - Oct 15 (¿por que?)
Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in May
October is Filipino American History Month and Mexican-American History Month
There's Native American Day on the 4th Friday of Sept and Native American History Month in Nov
German-Americans only get a day but I guess that's better than nothing.
