Wrong. That is kind of a silly assumption. There happens to be plenty of legal **** I wouldn't be caught dead with.

And Sampson, I should have expanded. While most of what I write about is personal experience, yes, I come from an area of high drug use. It's not at all like a 'ghetto' where drug use causes societal problems, but my high school was called the Pharmacy. When I write about my personal experiences, most of it involves a bevy of people; all of my friends (except one, a basketball player) smoke, a few deal.

And as to driving, I do see your point, and I did say percentage wise because I know it's a weak argument. However, you should also consider how many accidents are caused by poor driver reactions: either not reacting (because of distraction, like cell phone or similar) or overreacting. There are plenty of accidents cause by overreaction (i.e. overcompensating for someone merging into your lane, or slamming on the breaks if someone cuts you off) that may be avoided because of not only your alertness from being high as well as the anxiety reducing properties of marijuana.

Again, a very weak argument, just pointing out that it isn't black and white "driving high is more dangerous than sober".

          Re: Cannabis linked to Cancer.

Cancer sucks. BUT, most people who smoke weed don't do it every day, they do it at a party, or after work with their friends. So, as opposed to a pack (of cigarettes) a day, the average pot smoker has one joint a week, if that. So, really, if you use it in moderation (like all fun things), there's not reason you should have even a sliver of a risk of cancer.

I am coming for all of you!

Oooookay. Most people who smoke it will smoke it more often when it's legalized.

Everyone I know who smokes pot, smokes several joints a day. I don't see how the legalization of it will make them inclined to smoke more. Besides, what's the problem with it being legal? Holland seems to be doing just fine.

The problem hasn't risen yet. things can lead to things.

if it's legalized, which I'm not saying it shouldn't, I'm on the neutral side, it can lead to something in the future..

Yeah, because the black market and literally billions of taxpayers' dollars spent to prosecute marijuana dealers and growers isn't a problem now. Lord help us if we tax it and make money off of it, let alone effectively control it.

Ditto. Most of the people I hung out with in high school were stoners. Several of them had run ins with the cops over it; one of them was spending his entire paycheck on it every other week for a period of a couple months. I respect your authority on this issue, but my opinion is fairly grounded as well.

I'm not a musician or a comedian. These are professions I think, could in theory, benefit from being high. But I've never seen or experienced anything I think could really be enhanced by marijuana use (other than elementary fun value) besides conversations. I really think that if you smoke with your close friends together you will have deeper conversations with them and develop closer bonds of friendship--and that's great. However, I can't imagine writing on pot...brainstorming--yes, writing no. Normally my brain works pretty quickly, and when I'm high it's too fast for me to speak or write everything I'm thinking--I couldn't get it all down on paper or adjust my sentences because I'd be thinking of more. I could read my textbooks high, but I'd never trust my memory on test day. And physical activity? Tried basketball...didn't work out too well.

I'm not against using pot. But let's not dress it up for anything more than what it is. It's a source of relaxation and, in general, a great enhancer of enjoyment in any given situation. Yet, it has no real value for daily living.

Hey, rep to you for this. I was just going to post the same thing. You can get cancer if you breathe air or drink water.

...so, like - I'm not gonna bother reading the rest of the thread.

yea the thread turned out just like i thought, a big debate on why drags are/arnt bad.

i dont think anyone has any idea what causes cancer and what does. the error could be in the dna itself for all we know.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

Huh? Air and water cause cancer? Has anyone thought about the kind of CRAP they put in water these days? Flouride(which is a nerve poison)? Chlorine?

I believe it's the man-made chemicals and bad health that cause the cancer, not God's great resources.

Except that the study was specifically measuring known carcinogens in Cannabis as it's typically smoked and comparing them to the levels found in cigarettes.

This isn't some ****ing anecdotal evidence like, "I knew a guy that smoked weed once, and then like a week later, a moose fell on him."

If you choose to disregard the risks, that's your bag. I figured I'd disseminate the information and you can live your life how you like, but let's not go so far as to say everything causes cancer. That's a cop-out and you know it.

Yeah, re-reading that, I chose my words poorly. Let me clarify.

To borrow an example relevant to this board, take video games. Are they enjoyable? For most people. Relaxing? Yes. Are lives of video gamers on the whole better than non-gamers? No. You can have a enjoyable, stress free life without play video games. Likewise, my point was that pot is a relatively neutral substance that does not radically improve one's way of life.
