the whole reason that I'm so negative towards VX is because of how small an upgrade it is over XP. just like 2003 was a small improvement over 2000. both installments could have just been an upgrade, rather than a full piece of software.
Actually there's an issue with XP on vista though. many people on gamefaqs and rmxp.org solved it. Though i wish they release the patch to english to make it work. Like the japanese version has.
There is one thing that pretty much disturbes me in an SRPG....
rpgmaker.net has an article comparing XP to VX using the Japanese demo, the videos, and the official website for information. It seems pretty clear that VX is a major improvement over XP in many ways, but it is still just an upgrade rather then a new program. Apparently games made with XP can't be edited with VX, so you'd have to start over if you wanted to create a game in VX.
If you don't own RPG Maker XP and have a newer computer system (XP or Vista), it might be a good idea to wait for VX as it seems to be the better choice at this point.
If you already have XP, especially if you're in the middle of making an RPG, it would likely be better to stick with it. Many of the improvements can be scripted in XP. Many things in VX can make your life easier as a Game designer but they won't affect the overall look of your final game.
