Does anyone want to change the text for the emoticons?

I always have to go back and look for what to use for certain emoticons. Such as using : tear instead of :'( or : wink instead of ;). I was just wondering if anyone wanted to suggest changing some of the other ones to the traditional emoticon text.

Then we'd have half the emoticons as smiley faces and half as words, unless you can think of a smiley face for :racism

I think so. If the text were to be changed, all posts containing changed emotes would then break. As in you'd just see text. Not so good a thing IMHO.

The emotes are fine, if you cant remember the text just use the little menu thing.

The ones that I would want to see changed are :upset to >:, :drool to :o-, :wink to ;), :tear to :'(, :shakefist to :fist, and add the old yellow :p and non-stimpy :/.

While yes it would remove some emoticons now after a week most of those will have fallen off the front pages. If we all had Chrome's attitude there would be no

I would be a fan of bringing back both the yellow :p and another sideways face in addition to Stimpy. What I'd really like to see back is the old school :D guy (the one that had open eyes and no teeth - it looked sort of like a south park character). It was great for mock enthusiasm.

I agree that IRC's smiley codes are probably a little easier to remember (besides the drool guy), and might make me resort to the table a little less, but:

1) Using the emote table takes like 5 seconds, so who cares?
2) Like someone else said, all the old emotes would break. Even if the front page was cleared eventually, we'd still have emoticonless archives.

If the change was implemented, maybe both old and new emote codes could be acceptable, and just one of them could be listed in the table. That way the archive emotes could remain functional, and we wouldn't have duplicates in the table.

Does the current system really bother you that much? Is it that hard for you? How is :o- any easier to remember than : drool? Maybe we should change your log-in password to symbols so we don't risk you forgetting that too.

I end up not using emoticons most of the time because I can never remember the right keyword for the ones I want and I almost always post through Quick Reply which doesn't have the menu. It'd be fine if all I wanted to use was wink and cry but I hardly ever use those anyway. And I think the dumpster emote is big, ugly, and stupid but that's just me I guess.

Question: Is it possible to assign multiple commands to an emote? Like make it so ":P" and ":tongue" both make :p I've seen it done on a few sites before...

As for the ":p" the emote itself needs to be changed. (I might have something to use if anyone's interested.)

I dont see whats so hard about clicking the little arrow and the smiley, i think the :) :D and all those should actually be taken out, after I finished my tutorial on the streamlined battle system I had smileys out the wazoo all over my tutorial, I had to go back in and disable smileys for the post...

I dont see whats so easy about :)~ for drool, I mean theres different ways you can do drool

for people who dont know the coding it just makes it harder on them, and adding multiple commands to smileys will just clutter the smiley list for the rest of us...

Why is the command for thumbs down "thumbsdow"? Is there a 9 letter limit? At least it doesn't do a :thumbsdown like it used to.
