Frankly, I'm disappointed in the lack of 80s movie sequels coming out this year.
Thank GOD for Rocky Balboa.

ALWAYS WITH THE NIT-PICKING, RYNER.
I'm actually guardedly insterested in this. I'm a sucker for the Rocky movies. I happen to think the first one's really good and the sequels are guilty pleasure fun.

right on. I'm looking forward to this, too. I picked up my special edition of Rocky tonight and it got me so much more pumped for Balboa. the Rocky movies are so great.

A few weeks ago, there was a Balboathon on Spike TV (or was it TBS?) Anyway, it was cool to see those movies again. I think it's great that Stallone will be doing another one. Yo...Adriaaaaan!
Plus there's the inevitable boxing videogame.
rocky came out in the 70s, you goon.

I think it's to simulate how punch drunk Rocky's gotten.
I haven't seen a movie in the theater since Lil Miss Sunshine, but my inner redneck wants to see this movie.
sounds more like your inner underdog.

This movie is going to be retarded and I feel like an idiot because I want to see it so bad.
Dude...Rocky should freaking DIE in the ring...having won the belt...that would be AWESOME.
At least it won't be as bad as Rambo IV.
I can only imagine Rambo sneaking into Burma to free Christian missionaries who are being held by militants. And, as the invincible one-man army looks into the eyes of the ordinary folks from Oklahoma and South Carolina who are risking their lives for the Gospel, he is swept up by their commitment.
Oh, wait.
I'm. Not. Kidding.
"It rekindles something in him. He doesn't believe at first, he's seen too much. He's bitter. But when he meets these people and looks into their eyes, he's swept up in it, and literally he's just taken on this journey," Stallone said. "He's a Christian warrior! Can you believe it?"

The first Rocky was a great film.
The sequels were alright, but they got more and more silly as they went on.
I want to see the new one, just to see how it ties in and how its handled.

I loved the Rocky movies, but I think this is a bad idea. Why does everyone want to make sequels to older movies? No more original ideas?

Why does everyone want to make sequels to older movies?
Because the characters are already developed, the premise is already set, and the brand already has a fan based. It's less work for more money.

I personally loved Rocky 4. I thought it was the perfect Rocky movie and had a good ending.
I like em all except the awful Rocky V.
Apparently Rocky has a new love interest. I'm bummed abou that. There should only be Adriaaaaaaaaam!
Also the guy who plays Peter on Heroes is Rocky's kid.

He's just making his own movies.
Awe. :'(
Dammit man, why can't you cry.
the only way I'd accept Rocky having a new love interest is if the film's bad guy punches Adrian dead at the beginning of the movie.
Then, at the end, Rocky would see her blue ghost form join Apollo and Mick. If I had the will I'd make that a ytmnd.
Also the guy who plays Peter on Heroes is Rocky's kid.
I know, right? perfect casting, right?! especially looking at the guy's lower lip.
I am SO seeing this tomorrow. Here's a hilarious article about the first movies for those who have seen them...

I'm actually really looking forward to seeing the next one w/ the positive reviews out there. Rocky V was crap, so I want to see it end well.

Hmmm :) Loved the first Rocky. Hated the fifth one. The movies inbetween were all right.
His new opponent's got a lot of speed--but Rocky's got BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA.
"Heavy duty punches that'll rattle his ancestors." "Got to make the punches hurt like kissin' a freight train! YEAH! Let's start building some hurtin' bombs!"
I love that guy. He's funny yet whimsical. And he used to be on Apollo Creed's corner.

Hrafn
12-21-2006, 02:04 AM
A few months ago, Hrafn would have agreed that another Rocky was pointless. But the trailers make it look entertaining, even truly dramatic, and the prospect of getting to hear that memorable score at the cineplex for once has Hrafn ready to get the eye of the tiger one last time. Hrafn is looking forward to it now, and predicts it will certainly beat out 5, likely KO 3, maybe even 4. Probably not 2, and certainly never the first one.
so it's out tonight. and I can't find a single damn person to see it with me. kids today.

Saw it tonight. Pretty damn good.
But can it pass the Magus test?
Biggie
12-21-2006, 03:01 AM
Possibly, never truly goes over the top or has any "Yeah right" moments. Stays well between its boundries and turns up a decent, conclusive end to the series. After the movie I was looking for stairs to run up.
God damn. just what I was hoping for. I can't wait for the day when I meet a person who loves Rocky as much as I do. so I don't have to see it alone.

Hrafn acknowledges that he might get tired of his posting style eventually, but he still intends to ride it out as long as it continues to feel right. Hrafn's had this in his sytem for some time, and was just looking for a fresh new board to spew his third-personness upon. Hrafn ended up being led to here, and thought it worked well.
Caciss thinks Hrafn's novelty will run out shortly.
Josh agrees. Josh also thinks Hrafn needs to cool it on the vocab. Josh thinks it comes off very fake and ostentatious.

12-21-2006, 03:55 AM
Tough. That Hrafn will not halt; Hrafn has spoken this way since he was a wee lad, and Hrafn does not dumb himself down for anyone, least of all the Internet populace that so desperately needs people who don't post lik omg whut a n00b!!!!111!
that doesn't mean you have to try to sound overly booksmart.
Hrafn
12-21-2006, 04:25 AM
Hrafn is not trying, though. Hrafn does this without thinking. In fact, Hrafn was largely unaware of this until a recent visit by his young cousin. Her reactions whenever Hrafn lapsed into overly complicated language were most amusing, but also served to awaken Hrafn to just how unusual his speech tendencies were. Even Hrafn's own immediate family had gotten quite used to it, and were subsequently made aware of it once again by Hrafn's cousin and her aggravation over such bombast. However, since it would require a constant effort for Hrafn to restrain himself, Hrafn decides it is the world that should deal with it. Not him.

I want to go see it. I'm off Friday so I might. I just need someone to bear the waters with me.
My dad was telling me about how he saw the original in theaters back in 76.
As for Hrafn's posts - It's not THAT annoying. It just reminds me of Lord Bob too much. It could be worse - he could type like Grim.
I want to go see it. I'm off Friday so I might. I just need someone to bear the waters with me.
I would totally see Balboa with you, Lopez. because none of my damn friends want to see it. because I guess it's not "indie" enough.
Hrafn
12-21-2006, 04:37 AM
Hrafn's hand was forced by the limitations of the choices presented; had there been one that said "Hrafn does not use any" it would have been selected. Though in truth, such a precognitive sign would have creeped Hrafn out too much for him to come back.
Hrafn saw Rocky on the big screen as well, but much more recently. Hrafn has access to a theater where old movies are sometimes showcased as well as the new. This is also how Hrafn saw The Godfather on the big screen.
Hrafn despises people too indie to appreciate a good ol' fashioned man flick. And Rocky Balboa seems a prime canddiate for one.
aye, aye. I think we'd get along if you'd just buckle and speak monosyllabically like the rest of us. :lol
Hrafn
12-21-2006, 04:48 AM
Hrafn appreciates the vote of confidence, but thinks the board could use a touch more verbal flavor. Hrafn also thinks unleashing his linguistics upon the Internet helps quell the urge to do so in real life somewhat, though Hrafn's friends and family might not agree.
I see. on with the show, then, sir.

Talking like a combination of Spock and The Rock does not make you a mystery.
I don't find his vocabulary overly complex at all.
it's not like he's spouting out words I've never heard before, it just strikes me odd that he uses such an antiquated and/or scholarly way of talking. like, is he an English teacher or something? I can't figure it out. is he even a he?!
see? mystery.

You dont TYPE like that though. Especially if it's not your real name. I went through a phase where I spoke in 3rd person (I still do it on occasion by accident) but I never typed like that (Red Dragon is kinda hard to type over and over again though)

Hrafn asks that you take that post in context. That was in regards to Hrafn's vocabulary, not his newfound tendency to refer to himself in the third person. That would be a rather odd thing to do outside of the confines of message boards.
Hrafn is not an English teacher. Hrafn has read a lot since he was two, and just seemed to develop his vocabulary and overall speech patterns as a side effect. By the time Hrafn learned other children do not communicate in a similar fashion, he was too used to it to alter his patterns. And of course Hrafn is a man; not only has Hrafn referred to himself as such, but the percentages are always on that side when it comes to the Internet. Hrafn expects that this goes double for a RPG Maker forum.
Do you want mystery? How about this: before the year is out, Hrafn will find a member of this forum and punch him. Who will it be? The uncouth Maijo? The unfortunately named Bigfoot? Or will Hrafn simply cut to the chase and pound on a member of the site's management team? All Hrafn can say is that it will happen. And it will likely be deserved.

Wow, that was great. The more I let the movie wash over me, the more I like it. It does walk the tightrope line of the implausable, but DAMN, Stallone was friggin' RIPPED!!! It definitely added a lot of credibility to the final fight.
Great Rocky moments, great revisiting of the old characters. There were a few times I was a lil' misty eye. This might be my new fave Rocky.
