    Is this Legit? Cellphone Telemarketing

    I was forwarded this e-mail:
    10/11/06

REMINDER ..11 days from today, all cell phone numbers are being released to
telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.

.....YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone :
    888-382-1222 .
It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your
    time.
It bl ocks your number for five (5) years.

You must call from the cell phone number you are wanting to have blocked .
You cannot call from a different phone number.

HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS
    OR GO TO: www.donotcall.gov
I have a feeling it's really a telemarketer scam to get your phone number, but .gov sites are usually trustworthy. Can anyone shed some light?
    ...and that's why.

      Forwarded by email?

Its fake. And the national Do Not Call List has been around for a few years. For secruity sakes, I wouldnt submit anything directly from that link. If you want to enter your cell phone number, find a legit link, not one in your inbox.

Edit- I was right, its fake. Don't even bother registering your number.

Thanks. I just hope the people that forwarded this to me haven't already submitted their number...

I just go by the standard rule that if anything like this were actually true I would have heard about it first from somewhere other than an email.

What's strange is that I've always been willy-nilly with distributing my cell phone number and I've yet to have a telemarketer call me. Except for Blockbuster.

I bet if someone started passing around an email asking people to submit their credit card numbers to prevent identity theft, they'd fall for it.

Check out what the Federal Trade Commission has said

              http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2006/01/dnccellphones.htm

this should lay to rest any doubts about this matter whatsoever, the website that was given in the email is the actual do not call registry's website, so you can register your # there, but if its a cell phone, theres no reason to
