With the Playstation 3 launch just around the corner, Sony has released further information about the next gen console. The PS3 is a power hog and consumes around 380 watts of power more than double the Xbox 360's 160 watts and eight times the PS2's nimble 45 watts. So spending an average of 4 hours a day on the machine will add approx $ 80 to your yearly power bill.

And I think 4 hours a day would be a pretty low esitmate for most of us so the added power cost is even higher.

Also, Sony isn't even managing to reach it's reduced launch target of 500k units. Japan's been cut from 100,000 to 80,000 units available on Nov 11.(Source) How low can the launch supply go? When will we see the end of these "production issues"?

I would venture a guess and say anyone who has eight hours a day to play video games doesn't have to worry about paying the electricity bill.

Actually by the time i get one of those, i probly wouldnt be able to play 8 hours...as it is now i could but after this year ill have no time. =(

True, but considering how many people complain about $50/yr for XBL Gold...

On the bright side, you can pick up a silver slim PS2 for $129. Kinda good news? Sorta? Nah, not really.

I cant remember what the device is called, but Sony has it inside the PS3 and the device itself costs $1,000 and thats ALONE. The rest of the PS3 isanother couple hundred, and its still being sold for less than half of all that together, so i wouldnt complain. think of it this way: it will cost Sony approximately $1,200 to make the console, and selling it at a varied price of $500-600. And you guys that complain that 4 hours isnt enough honestly disgust me. I mean, I'm your age and I have a job, don't you? There are plenty of other things to do besides playing 4+ hours a day on a video game.
Please, go play some basketball or something.
