    The November Challenge

I got this idea from a blog I frequent. The jist is that you set a goal for yourself, something you'd been wanting to do for awhile but just havn't, and you make the goal public. The theory being that if other people have heard about your goal, it will be a lot harder for you to give up on it. Not only do you make your goal public, you also state a forfeit that you will do in the event that you fail to meet your goal. One suggestion is to offer to donate money to an organization you hate, out of the hopes it will inspire you to work hard.

In the blog, the writer sets the goal that he is to complete a 50k word story working only in the month of November. If he fails, he will donate 1000 dollars to the Republican party.

If all goes to plan, I'll (finally) be starting college in January. There are a few things I want to get done before then, when I'll become even busier than I am now. So, I'm am publicly stating my own November challenge out of the hopes that I'll be able to get a few of those things done. I'm starting small now, but if it works I'll go bigger in December.

My challenge to myself is to do the following in November:

    a) Take a trip by myself to Atlantic City.

    b) Complete a short story or screenplay.

    C) Get my driving learners permit. Yes, I know I don't plan to get a car anytime soon, just get the damn permit.

These are my goals, I'm making them public to you all so I won't make excuses to myself and skip them. A and C are basic enough, but B is the one I really want to get done. My forfeit:

If I fail to complete this challenge, I will donate 250 dollars to 911truth.org

I feel confidant that I'll work hard to complete my goals to insure those idiots don't get a dime of my money.

Starting Wednesday, the November challenge is on. The goals have been announced, the forfeit is set. I invite anyone interested to join me and set their own challenge. Come on, don't be a wuss. Think of a forfeit and set your goals, no matter how mundane. It's your chance to get the things done you've been putting off for so long. Anyone can do this, you just need to have drive and be honest to yourself.

I will provide proof when each goal is met, or proof of the donation if the challenge fails. Wish me luck.

I dunno, I feel like that would make it HARDER for me, but the idea of a penalty could give me an incentive. Maybe I WILL try it.

Still, couldn't you pick a penalty that's, like, worthwhile? That money could go to Valk, or me instead.

But imagine how painful it would be for Ryner to give that money to that organization. It'd be worse than just burning it.

Cause the idea isn't to say "Well, I'm just going to skip my challenge, at least a worthy cause will get my donation." It's to say, "Sweet Jesus, I better work my butt of so I won't have to give those guys my money. And what if they try to contact me to say thanks? I'll have to kill them all! OK, chapter 2."

Okay, point taken - I would be much more driven to deprive those I hate of money.

Yeah, I wanna do this, too, but I don't exactly have the money to make any major donations. I need to think of something else. Maybe something I'd give away?

Just pick something you would really really hate to have to do, and be honest with yourself that you WILL do it if you fail.
