Final Fantasy XII Collector's Edition

Today, I reserved Final Fantasy XII: The Collector's Edition over at my neighborhood GameStop. It's about $10 more than the ordinary version, but from what I've learned, it comes in a metal case with an extra DVD featuring trailers, interviews and artwork.

I like the idea of getting bonuses, but for some reason, I'm not sure if it's worth an extra $10. I have the option of not getting the Collector's Edition and instead go for the ordinary version. Of course, I have until Halloween.

I was also surprised to hear about a Collector's Edition strategy guide. I don't have much info on how different that will be from the normal strategy guide. All I do know is that the Collector's Strategy Guide costs more money, too.

My budget isn't exactly kosher, but then again, this Collector's Edition doesn't come around every day.

If you were in my position, what would you do?

Don't waste your money on the guide, but the SE game sounds neat.

Yeah, its probably better than the Resident Evil 4 collectors edition (Gamecube), that tin case dented so easily.

looking at the MGS3:Subsistence collector's edition, FFXII might be worth it for resale value alone.

I agree. It's all just ambient background sounds and not actual music.

That blows. The soundtracks up through IX were so universally awesome, too. That was like one of the huge reasons to play the games, even.

I favored X's soundtrack as the best and to this day I stand by that. Haven't heard XII yet thought. Good stuff?

I don’t even really like soundtracks I-XI, so I was hoping for some awesomeness with a composer that I liked from Vagrant Story. No such luck.

Can someone please just hire Yoko Kanno to do your music?

Personally I think they are going to have extra copies of the "collector's edition" sitting in the pre-owned shelves in about 6 months or so. But I could be wrong.

I'm going to pass on this FF and just save up for Devil Summoner instead.

It's never been done before....a Collector's Edition Final Fantasy title. It'd be nice to own a little piece of history, but I'm afraid the metal case would look out of place in my PS2 library cabinet. Then again, it wouldn't make much sense to buy both the CE and the original.

As for the music, I thought it was quite riveting. I've heard Hitoshi Sakamoto's works in Ogre Battle and Tactics, and I really enjoy the brooding battle themes.

If I can get a hold of it, I'd like to get the soundtrack as well.
