Newbies on the Pavilion, yon Libby speaks...

Okay, I feel like I've been here long enough to have some sort of a swaying say in this, and this is directed to any newbie who waltzes onto the Pavilion and assumes they can play with the big boys after one post.

    1) Grammar - I am a grammar nazi. I am not so bad that I will pick apart every single post that has a minute amount of bad grammar, but I cannot STAND people who come around and use internet speak, and then act offended when we ask them not too. Generally, people are nice about it, some are not. But don't act like a 13 year old when someone asks you to run your posts through a word processor. It's not because we don't like you, it's because we want to understand what the hell you are saying so we can actually try and take you seriously! I've said this before, we actually have a 13 year old on the forum that has understandable english. It is NOT that hard.

    2) Reading the Rules - It's not that hard. It's the first section of the forums, it's easy to locate, and it's stickied by Valk so you don't have to scroll through pages of threads to try and locate it. No spamming, no thread-hijacking, and no BS threads about trying to do things with a program that you can't do just so you can look cool to your friends. It takes up precious space and although it amuses us, it's still a waste of time. And for gods sake STOP CREATING MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS. It's counterproductive and wastes the admin's time. It's not funny when you make fun of other noobs or other people on here...Well, it is for a few minutes, but that's about it.

    3) Ads. - Although it doesn't happen much, you must realize that we are NOT GOOGLE, nor are we some free ad service that wants to show YOUR site because we like you. Honestly, we don't. I mean, we don't like you. For the most part, we tolerate people who do this, and delete the thread, but unless it's funny or amusing, or nothing too graphic, we don't want to go to the website that supports your illegally hacked game on RPGM 2003.

    4) Illegal games - Bringing me to my next point. If you have the time to register, you have the time to read the rules. We do not support illegal games on this server. We are pretty much one of the offically recognized forums for the RPGMakers, so we arn't going to play with your illegal games. We will, however, let you know it is illegal, and hook you up with ways to get legal RPGMakers. When we do so, however, the proper ettiquite is to say thank you and quietly go on your way to some other forum that doesn't care about legality. You do not act like a three-year old and pitch a fit because we don't cater to your illegal activities. We like the Pavilion, so take a moment, read the rules, and don't post if you got an illegal game.

    5) Trolls - You arn't funny, you are annoying. You can laugh about it with all your other forum buddies, but we have as much or as less of a life then you do. We will beat you down with immense pleasure.

Flat out, we like new people, we like to welcome them and help them. It's nice to know there are more people interested in RPGM, but there is an untalked about system here. You have to earn respect around here, and you can't demand it by running in and saying "RATE MY RPG2oo3 gam, KtHNXBAI!".

We outnumber you and WE WILL EAT YOU ALIVE.

Alright, Libby's rant is over. *bows* Thank you.

(If this is inappropriate, please lock/delete, I just felt the need to say it.)

If anything, your rant should get a sticky.
I had to change accounts. I'm here now - http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/member.php?u=1475

A noble cause, but there's a problem. While numbers 2,3,4, and 5 are all valid points, anyone who breaks those rules wont care enough to be reading this guide. In fact, 3-5 are all covered in the official site rules, and see how well those dont work?

^_^ Thanks. I had more to say, but my fuming got smaller as the post got bigger.

This is true, but number one is prolly the most important to me, I think I might just have a post all saved up and then cut/paste it on every bad grammar post that gets put up here.

I agree with you libby on nearly every point. Also:

Ryner is right: this is good-hearted effort, libby, but I'm not sure how effective it will be.

Vessel is right: this should stickied. It will help to have it towards the top.

It's obvious that some newbies are not going to catch on to the simple and nearly common-sensical things that forum members expect out of them at first. But there are plenty of people around here that are willing to set them straight and preserve the sanctity of these forums.

I don't know. Look at how long Ryner has been fighting this cause. I've fought it for awhile. Thing is, it's a battle that really can't be won.

It's not about winning the war, that's impossible. It's about winning those individual battles against one offender, and stopping them from rising up and turning this place into GameFAQs. I'd like to think I've done alright in that respect.

Some people are utterly impossible to embarass into oblivion. Nash still hasn't gone away. Staffmaster still hasn't gone away. I mean, yeah, we've set a good amount straight -- but a lot of them never change.
