Kevin's Kwest. (Screenshots! Character Bios! Oh the humanity!)

Kevin is a young teenager living in the city of Hydgar who has dreamt of being a hero since he was a baby (or so he claims). Unfortunately, he has absolutely no skills or abilities, and his attempts at heroic deeds always end in failure. He can't even pass the entrance exam to get into Hero School.

Receptionist: You’ve already taken the test fifteen times. The highest score you’ve managed to get is an 85.

    Kevin: 85 is pretty good.

Receptionist: You need 1000 to pass! Don’t you think it might be time to give up?

Kevin: Give up? What kind of hero gives up?

Receptionist: I’m sorry, but you’re not a hero.

Kevin: Yes I am! Hero blood runs in my veins!

Receptionist: How? Your father was a sailor, and your mother was a tailor.

Kevin: How did you know that?

    Receptionist: It’s in your file.

Kevin: Oh yeah? Does my file mention how I saved Ms. Hentin’s cat from a tree last week?

Receptionist: Yes, it does. It also says you were the one that put the cat up there in the first place.

Kevin: Right, and then I saved it!

Kevin just doesn't have what it takes. He's afraid of treasure chests, won't fall in love with the female-white-mage-former-princess, and has a very unheroic name. He's the laughing stock of the town. However, Kevin gets his big break when the King discovers the evil Demon Lord is planning to attack the city. With all of the other heroes of Hydgar on other quests, the King reluctanlty decides to give Kevin the chance to prove himself. Kevin has his mission: Defeat the Demon Lord and save the city!

    He fails horribly.

The Demon Lord effortlessly takes over Hydgar. He has captured the King and is in control of the castle. Only a small section of the city remains safe, and the survivors within are surrounded by the Demon Lord’s army. All hope is lost. Kevin is forced to live in shame and is exiled from his home. But then, a mysterious and costumed ally named Vicktor (who totally isn’t the King’s advisor, Vick) gives Kevin the mysterious Battlemage Deck. This magic deck of cards can be used mysteriously in battle for mysterious special effects. Suddenly, Kevin has the tools he needs to defeat the Demon Lord. On his renewed quest he'll join forces with a guard named Guard, an opera singer whose musical talents literally make people sick, a talking sword, and a bunnymancer (Like a necromancer, but with bunnies). Can the heroes reclaim the empire from the clutches of the Demon Lord?

Kevin’s Kwest is a comedy/satirical RPG made with RPG Maker XP (Please note that games created with XP are standalone programs and do not require XP itself to play). You play as Kevin and must save the city of Hydgar. If you want to, that is. If you’d rather just do side quests and buy lottery tickets, you can. I don’t really care. The game is freeform and focuses on giving the player a lot to do without forcing you into tedious and boring battles just to get to the next city. Does a "Bunnymancer" need dead bunnies? And, couldn't a Necromancer (technically) just ressurect bunnies instead of ...everything?

Tee-hee! Those predictable plots! That scene was just fabulous! Just one thing though...

Sounds like a fun and funny game. A little sarcasm always makes for a more enjoyable game.
I don't have RPG Maker XP yet. Well, perhaps this would be worth downloading a trial version for.

I love that one, Ryner. Sounds very funny. The question is, does the Demon Lord ramble on about his evil scheme?

Demon Lord: "Now that all of the blahs are mine I can blah blah blah blah..."

                      (the talking continues)

Kid: "Oh great, now he will waste an hour of our lives explaining his stupid plan."

Kevin: "Hmm... I'll try to come up with a witty come back when he's done!"

Kid: "While we are waiting for him, how about a game of monopoly?"

                      Kevin: "Huzzah!!!"

I really out to get on the Something Stupid IX re-attempt. If only to compete with Kevin's Kwest and be able to say I started my RPG satire first.

                          The Battlemage Deck

Originally thought to just be art, this deck of cards was an item in the castle's museum. However, when the Demon Lord took over the city, strange powers within the cards became activated. Kevin's mysterious ally, Vicktor, takes the deck from the castle and gives it to Kevin in the hope he can bring down the Demon Lord.

In battle, Kevin has no weapon and no abilities. The only actions he can take revolve around the Battlemage deck. At the start of each battle, Kevin draws his opening hand of three cards. During his turn, he can choose to use one of the cards he has, or randomly draw a new one. The cards that make up the deck each have a different ability to aid the heroes in battle. There is a gigantic variety in the types of cards Kevin can draw, thanks to the scripting powers of XP the possibilities are endless. Some effects include typical RPG abilities (healing, damage, buffs, etc), deck control (draw extra cards), inventory bonuses (gain gold or rare items), various oddball stuff (trivia questions that can be answered for bonuses, or summoning a merchant to sell you things right in the middle of battle), and lots more.

Throughout his adventure, Kevin can find more cards to add to his deck, and learn new abilities to help him better utilize it (Such as being able to search for a specific card, or increasing his starting hand size).

Hopefully, the Battlemage Deck will present a unique form of combat to Kevin's Kwest.

The story sounds kinda fun, the characters have the potential to be interesting, the Battlemage Deck sounds awesome (some of the special effects in particular), and best of all is the guard named Guard. Brilliant.

Stupid character bios that nobody really cares about but everyone posts anyway

                              Kevin, the Hero

Why anyone would make Kevin a hero is a mystery. Just a teenager, he has no skills, no special abilities, and is quite clueless.

Ray: You know your armor is pretty old. We should buy you some new equipment.

                              Kevin: You can buy equipment?

Still, Kevin has long dreamed of being a Hero, and has repeatedly applied to Hero School despite constantly failing the entrance exam. That dedication is what forced the King to consider giving Kevin a chance to defeat the Demon Lord. That proved to be a mistake, but Kevin has sworn to make things right, and has dedicated himself to saving his home. Though his intentions are pure, Kevin’s personality is constantly alternating between emotionally unstable teenager, overly dramatic hero, and utterly confused fool.

In battle, Kevin has no options outside of using the Battlemage Deck.

Kevin is your main chatacter, and he is joined on his quest by four others. In battle, your party will consist of Kevin; two of the four below; and, if applicable, a summoned creature. The other party members are:

                              Guard, the Guard

Living a lifetime as an extra, Guard has only done one thing his entire life. Day in and day out, he has stood watch over the statue of Anna Marie, which is property of the King and must not be touched by civilians. But Guard has grown tired of his job, tired of always standing still, and tired of never saying anything but “Please don’t touch the statue, citizen.” Guard meets Kevin after the fall of Hydgar, and is so desperate for an adventure he joins the party of the most hated person in the city. After one successful quest, Guard becomes addicted to saving people, and permanently allies himself with Kevin and his goal.

Because he literally has never taken one foot away from his statue, Guard is amazingly more naïve about the world than even Kevin. However, his melee strength and newfound love of heroism has made him a strong and selfless ally in battle. Many of his skills aid the other party members at Guard’s detriment, such as damaging himself to heal an ally.

                              Ray, the Bunnymancer

Ray is a wisecracking smart ass who can talk to rabbits. He has a strange affinity with the furry animals, and can even call upon them to attack his enemies. Ray came to Hydgar on the tail of an old foe that is in the Demon Lord’s army, but isn’t allowed to tell that story until he’s been in the party long enough to deserve a flashback. Ray witnessed first-hand the fall of the city due to Kevin’s failure, which made their repeated meetings quite awkward. In the end, Ray puts aside his doubts over Kevin’s chances of survival, and eventually realizes that the best hope for saving the city would be for him to join the party.

While offensively weak, Ray can summon a rabbit to join the party in battle. Many of Ray’s skills focus on this rabbit, whether it’s buffing him, healing him, or sending him into an animalistic fury. The advantage of having an extra party member could turn the tide of a battle, making Ray an effective choice for your party.

                              Donna, the Diva

A former opera singer in the Hydgar Auditorium, Donna had to retire from her dream job when it was discovered that her singing literally made people sick. She instead became a writer of musicals and plays, but has yet to find the inspiration she needs for a big hit. After hearing of Kevin’s heroic quest, she decides to join the party so she can turn their adventures into an award-winning musical. Donna at times is literally a danger to have around, as she repeatedly finds ways to make life more difficult on the party just for the sake of adding more drama to her future script. Still, it’s a law that you have to have at least one female party member, so Kevin keeps her around.

Donna has a large variety of songs that she can use in battle. Each of these songs has a different effect, whether beneficial or damaging. The unique thing about Donna’s songs is that with a single use, the effect of the song will repeat for three turns. This means that, if you utilize her properly, you can have Donna using three abilities in a single turn.

                              Shiv, the Sword

Shiv is a talking sword, and the mandatory grizzled veteran of the group. Originally scheduled to be the Star Dragon Sword in Suikoden, Shiv lost the part to a younger, sexier sword. A sword that, according to Shiv, “Slept with the director to get the part.” Whether that is true or not, Shiv was later captured and imprisoned in a treasure chest that eventually ended up in Hydgar. After being freed by the party, Shiv decides to join Kevin partially out of thanks, and partially out of hopes of finding the people that captured him. While always serious and sometimes grumpy, Shiv has decades of knowledge under his belt (hilt?), and knows his way around a heroic quest.

Being a sword has it benefits and drawbacks in battle. On the plus side, Shiv is offensively and defensively the strongest character. He is also immune to most status effects and highly resistant to magic. However, Shiv has no arms, so he can’t use items. Also, he has no legs, so he needs to help of others to attack his foes. This means that even if Shiv isn’t KOed, the game will end if he is the only party member still standing.

I skipped things like last names and age, because really, who gives a ****?
