    XP Project

I'm remaking my game for the public. Last time it was released it was only to certain people.

This time i'm releasing it to the public, with better graphics and an advanced battle system.

I need a team of experienced people to make it this time. If you have any experience please post.

Um, yeah, you're gonna have to be a bit more specific about positions available and stuff like that.

...Along with some info on the game and maybe a name. No one is going to be part of your "team" if they don't know anything about the game.

It's called The Legend of Gaia. Someone who can script would help.
If your good with the adobe photoshop that would help.

The main thing will be the graphics. I mean I only need a couple of things with scripts, but alot with graphics. I'll need someone to work on tilesets and character sets.

I can give you a summary, but i'm afraid of revealing to much about the game right now so, if your interested please post. I can give a small amount of info.
I just want to see if anyone here can do what I need done first. I'll probably reveal info in my next post.

            Re: XP Project

Not to burst your bubble but people are going to need a lot of information on a game to want to work on it. With that said I am not being harsh or demeaning in anyway, just trying to let you know how most people are likely going to feel and want to know. So think of this as constructive criticism because that is what it is meant to be.

Think of it this way people are going to want to work on a project they made up first (since that is what most people do on this board), so you have to convince them that your project is somehow going to be better, more popular or something like that before people are going to want to work on your project, or at least worth working on in the first place. So don't be afraid of people stealing ideas because no one here would, mainly because if you post it people will know it was your idea plus if someone were to steal it and make a game and host it here people would know they stole it from you. I used to think this way too, oh no if I post my idea someone is going to steal it, but after a while you realize that in a community like this everyone already has many ideas for a game they would want to make and have more professionalism than to just steal someone else's, plus it would take a lot of time and effort to make your idea into a real game anyway on any of the RPG Makers. If you're really worried about it then just make sure you put the copywrite symbol by your thing and then if anyone tried to steal it you go after them. Plus if you post it it will show you had it first since it is in a public place with your name by it.

Now some people might just be looking for a project to work on, but most people have been doing projects for other people in college or even high school all the time and really want to try their own. Also before people are going to want to put the time and energy into something that is going to take up a lot of it they are going to want to know as much as possible about what they're getting into. So you should have an outline of the characters, story, levels, world and probably some sample stuff for people to look at to know you're going to hold up your end of the bargin too. So vauge things like graphics are not much help to people. Let people know what kind of graphics you're going to want (chracter sprites, backgrounds, 2D, 3D rendered into 2D), what kind of theme you will be going for (traditional [medieval], futuristic, dark, gloomy, happy, sunny, bright, horror, post-apocalyptic), and how many of these things you expect to need. Also people are going to want to know what your story is, will you be willing to make small changes, are you open to suggestion for new ideas or direction for certain parts of the game. Of course if your not ready to go then realistically you can't expect too many people to want to jump aboard yet, since you're not even ready.

So with that said, start explaining about the story, trust me no one will steal it cause I know I personally have at least 4 stories I would like to make into a game/short novel and many more I could think up of if I ever get around to makeing all of those. Also start thinking about how much each person will have to do, and how much you're going to do, have already done, and will be working on. Yeah this might seem like a bit much but if you have all of this you will have a much better chance of recruiting people on your team, and generating general interest for your game. If I wasn't so busy I might consider it, but really I have too many things I've been putting off to work on something else. So put some more things up here to get others interested, instead of just asking for help. There is a big difference for asking someone to help you with this one little thing on your game, and asking you to help create the game. The latter requires a lot of upfront information to get interest. Plus the more you have know in terms of organization, and the more interest the other people have in the project the more likely it will actually get done (I would add in a timely manner, but games that don't get done in a timely manner are usually never finished and abandoned).

So though this might seem like a small thing you are still making something around half the size of an indy game, and that is a big commitment to make with little to know info about what is going on. Just some food for thought when trying to get people to join your team, you'll have more success with more info. So good luck on your search.

              Re: XP Project

I'll give you a run down. The Main character is Cypher. Basically the game centers around a dark creature of unknown origins. The game starts out in the middle of a war, but not long into the game it switches to searching for an item to fight the dark creature.

Might not sound that great, but it will have an innovative story. It will be full length. Basically about 20 hours long. It will be worth working on.

It's amazing the number of times we hear somebody talk about a cliche and crappy story and then say "I know it sounds cliche and crappy but it's totally original/innovative/good."

                No, it isn't.

                    Re: XP Project

We'll there's alot more to the story than that, thats just a rundown. If I reveal to much no one will want to play it. I mean I don't know about you, but if someone told me everything about a game I wouldn't want to play it. Unless I just wanted to beat it, to say I beat it.

I'm gonna try to balance it out to have alot of story and alot of gameplay.
I'm not sure what the total hours will be. I mean it's going to go in depth with many of the character's story. Right now I'm planning to make it a FF style battle system.

The characters and chipsets will be on a larger scale, meaning monsters will be huge. Characters will be about twice as big. There will be a world map.

Nobody's telling you to tell the whole story. We just need enough detail to know what's going on. There's no point in telling us anything if you're not going to tell us anything.

You're pretty much blind folding us and then telling us to proof read a script. We can't help you with anything you don't show us.

I think when he says "script" he means a coder for the RGSS?

play the Kuromei Chronicle (despite its graphical shortcomings). you may have to wait a while for the plot twists, but i can't think of another video game that has the same plot twists as it does. books, maybe, but not video games.

i don't understand why everyone who's making a project woth XP feels they need a team of people to get it done. i'm doing Seraphim all by myself and i think its coming along fine.

eh. i can't say that i'm very good at anything, though (no photoshop, beginner at RGSS, etc) so i can't really help you.
