    Happy Hardcore

    best. techno. ever.

sounds kinda gay, can get annoying.

    good lyrics, such as:

"it's a fine day, people at the window, stand with their arms out, just for a short while. It's going to be a fine night tonight. It's going to be a fine day tommorow." etc.

basically, the idea behind it is, it's really fast, it's really happy, it can get repetitive, but just when you're getting tired of the same beat, it switches the melody to something that makes you feel good. ah, ride the happy techno groove.

    I am raver whore. no.

    raves are awesomely awesome. HAI!

    Re: Happy Hardcore

I bought a "happy rave 95" cd because of the freaky cover. That was the worst techno I've ever heard. I used it to torture my old dorm roommates if they wouldn't stop playing country music.

      it's not techno.
Techno is one particular kind of electronic dance music. Most techno is highly rhythmic, unmelodic, and cold/alienating.

I lump it all together. I know the difference between some forms of electronic music, but I don't care to try and keep up with all the proper lingo. An example: I have real industrial music, and also stuff I just call industrial music for lack of a better term.

SPK/Einsturzende/Throbbing Gristle/Test Dept... all that stuff is so awesome. Modern "industrial" crap ain't got nothin on it.

                  Re: Happy Hardcore

A friend of mine got me into Einsturzende Neubauten. He actually saw them here in Austin a few years ago. Said they had some crazy set up, and some of the stuff wouldn't fit on the stage.

I like some newer "industrial music," but most of the good stuff is on compilations. Recently I found some random cds from les joyaux de la princesse and others. Some of it is alright.

oh my god, you like LJDLP?!

                    You have seriously good taste.
I'm into all that kinda newer old-styled industrial. If you like LJDLP.. try some Blood Axis, NON (especially NON, boyd rice is hilarious), Con-Dom, The Grey Wolves (that's my icon over there), and Inade.

Do you listen to any military pop/martial industrial?

                      Re: Happy Hardcore

I wouldn't say I have good taste, but I am open to new things since I really enjoy listening to lots of different music while I draw.

The music I have from LJDLP is limited, some of it is from compilations like g.a.s.k.r.i.e.g. and Zyklon B. I have some of the stuff he did with Blood Axis, like the Absinthe, La Folie Vert. Also some limited release cds like Exposition Internationale. I can't remember the others off hand. I have Death In June's "Ostenbraun." I heard he was associated with that in some way.

I'll try to check out the others you recommended. I may already have a few tracks from The Grey Wolves, but I don't think I have a full album.

And I have no idea what military pop or martial industrial is. '-'

                        Re: Happy Hardcore

Gaskrieg and Zykon B are great comps. There's a Turbund Sturmwerk song on Gaskrieg if I remember correctly. That's some awesome stuff.

Death in June are *great*, too, but I'm sad about them.. I have a DiJ shirt, and I can't take it with me to austria. It has a death's head on it.

Military pop is the genre name given to Allerseelen's work, but it generally incorperates stuff like... um..
                        - Der Blutharsch
                        - Derniere Volonte
                        - Von Thronstahl
                        - some Death in June albums, such as Take Care & Control.
that sort of stuff. Industrial with melody and a lot of military drumming and themes. Seems like you should like it a lot. It's generally considered a subgenre of Neofolk, which is industrial influenced folk music.

Do you have soulseek or last.fm?

I'll see if I can sniff out some of those. I like what I've heard from Death in June so far, so it couldn't hurt to check out their other albums.

                          I don't have soulseek or last.fm.

EDIT: The turbund sturmwerk tracks on Gaskrieg are "gelbkreutz" and "gloria mundi."

(I make this kinda stuff now, btw, in addition to my normal music.)

                            Um.. hm.
Getting a lot of this without Soulseek will be rather hard - musicians in this genre tend to release in very limited numbers. Howev.. here are some albums to look for:

                            neofolk:

Death in June - Rose Clouds of Holocaust
Death in June - But, What Ends When the Symbols Shatter?
Of the Wand & the Moon - Sonnenheim
Current 93 - Thunder Perfect Mind
Sol Invictus - In The Rain
Days of the Trumpet Call - Heroes & Traitors

                            martial industrial:

                            Von Thronstahl - Imperium Internum
Der Blutharsch - The Pleasures Recieved in Pain
Derniere Volonte - Les Blessures de l'Ombre
The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath a Cloud - A New Soldier Follows the Path of a New King
                            Sophia - Sigillum Militum
                            Allerseelen - Gotos=Kalanda

                            into any ambient music?

edit: Sturmwerk's "Gloria Mundi" is awesome.

Thanks for the list. *saves to notepad*

I have another album from Of the Wand and the Moon, it's called "emptiness emptiness emptiness."

I enjoy some ambient music, but like industrial, I don't really know what else is out there. Most of the ambient stuff I have right now is from Aphex Twin.

There used to be a lot of independent music stores here, but they all closed down. I gave them lots of business, since they had normal music and also weird obscure foreign releases, too. Now I'm mostly limited to what I can find on the net.
