Anyone hate driving as much as me?

For many reasons, I just hate driving. There are very few moments when I am feeling good when I drive. And those are only when I am traveling a long distance to some place for vaction.

Other than that, I hate getting into traffic, surviving crazy drivers, dealing with speed traps, cops, detours, ect.

I guess I have always prefered walking. Even when I was little, my friends would want to ride bicycles while playing cops and robbers, but I insisited on doing it on foot.

Now, I can't just do away with my car, since I live outside of a major town. So I can't have the option of having sidewalks, public transportation, or bicycles. I am stuck driving a car through crappy roads with people who really can't drive.

Does anyone else feel the same?

I don't hate driving, I just hate the other drivers.

Rude people I tell you, ignorant as hell too. Most people don't know "Right of Way", or they'll just pass right through the stop signs.

Oh, also, I abore California drivers.

I still don't have a license or permit and the only driving I've ever done was Driver's Ed and my brother in law letting me practice in his car a couple times both of which were years ago. So I don't really know if I hate driving or not. I probably will.

Yeah. I've always preferred to walk places. The only time I regret it is in the summer.

I'm another who hates driving. I think it's because I had, no lie, three people try to change lanes directly into my car in my first year of driving. People just not paying attention and suddenly swerve into my lane so I had to hit my brakes and come to a complete stop. This isn't cutting me off, as that would indicate that there was an opening.

Ever since that year I've gotten stressed while driving. I'd much rather walk (which I did when I was at college, and will when I go back. I used to walk over a mile to class each way every day, sometimes several times a day.)

Oh yeah, driving is a terror. Nobody knows how to do it.

there's good and bad driving. open highway with the window down = good. any place with street lights and too many morons = bad.

HELLLLL YEAH. Forget DRIVING, man. And ditto on preferring to walk. I haven't taken the school shuttle even once, despite being so far away from the rest of campus.

19, still no liscense, and no plans to get one.

I own an 18 speed bike decked out with front and rear suspension, and a monthly bus pass for $30 a month. Fear me.

I'm not too fond of driving in a bigger city, but I'm in a smallish town for the summer and I rather like driving here.

Usually when I'm in the city I just take the bus or something. It's more fun to observe the other losers who take the bus anyway.

I only drive about once a year. Usually when I'm in the city I can either walk or take public transportation, but when I go to Kansas or Iowa there really is no choice but to drive. I'm not too bothered by it, though, as traffic's never that horrendous. I pity you people who have to drive in California or New York, though. x_x

I like driving. Sure as hell beats walking, but I am used to looking out for other drivers.

Oklahoma City is terrible for driving. We probably have more people per capita than any other state that couldn't pass the written portion of the driving test because they couldn't understand the questions because their reading comprehension is lower than grade school. I archive police tickets at work sometimes, and better than 10% of tickets are issued with more tickets for having no license, no insurance, and illegal/expired tags.

Highway driving at night is fine, but in the daytime rushes people forget that they're driving. I prefer not to drive if at all possible, but I have to at least five days out of the week. It's terrifying being on Oklahoma roads with people who barely graduated from a high school where the curriculum is so poor and the scales so tipped that we're miles behind the better states.

I don't mind driving so much. I just don't like stop lights. That thing could start changing on me at any point, and if it does, I have a split-second to decide if I should gun it in hopes that there's enough time to go across, or hit the brakes and hope I don't wind up having to screech to a halt or stop too far up. Lots of times when I come across one, I find myself changing "don't change, don't change". It's easier if the light includes a crosswalk, as it's a decent clue that it's going to change when the "don't walk" light is blinking. It's also not so much a problem if I'm going in a 20-30mph zone. But beyond that (even at 35), I get real nervous.

I also get nervous if somebody's tailing me. I'd like nothing more than to hit the brakes to make the person back off, but I'm too afraid that would make things worse. I don't know why people want to travel so fast anyway. I already travel 2 or 3 mph faster than the speed limit. Heck, if I wind up behind somebody else, I don't usually complain. But then, I'm also quite afraid to pass somebody on a 2-way road. Unless the road is perfectly clear ahead, I can never tell if I have enough to pass anybody.

If there's one positive thing about driving (and it's probably a bit odd that I'd like this), it's when I get stopped by a train. I like trains. I like watching them. I live next to a main line belonging to Norfolk Western. Too bad the train that passes here is a boring coal train.
