Owners of X-Box 360: Waste of Money?

Those who own XBox 360 -

I recently purchased a television capable of displaying HDTV, but everything on regular cable looks awful and HDTV won't be available in my area for another 2 months. The only other thing I can think of that will make my TV looks awesome is an XBox 360. I'm generally into sports games and I was addicted to Halo 2 , but I dunno much else about the system.

You guys happy with the purchase thus far? Or has it been a waste of money?

I have a 360 not, however I plan on getting one eventually. It's pretty much a given that many sports titles will end up on the console, and a few are at the moment. There's also the XBox Live Arcade, which has a number of demos, classic games and simple, addictive, low budget titles like Geometry Wars available for download.

Also, due to rising costs of game dev, many titles this gen will be cross-platform (Available on 360 and PS3). So I hardly think that it'd be a waste of money.

Then again, that's equal incentive to wait for a PS3 this November, especially since they plan on having their basic online service allow free barebones online play, with the premium account allowing for more options.

Say, do the backwards-compatible XBox games display in HD on the 360, Admiral Kire?

I'm loving my 360 so far. GRAW and Oblivion are godly, Fight Night is a blast online, all the online downloadables are great too.

I remember seeing a GameSpot article where they did side by side shots of XBox games on XB and 360 to show the improvement in visual quality. It was a nice boost. But for a few games the emulation isn't quite right and the graphics aren't improved or possibly even lower quality.

If you love sports games and Halo then I doubt you'd consider the 360 to be a waste of money.

Yeah, I was about to ask, isn't Oblivion the shoe-in for "game of the year" already the same way Res Evil 4 was last year?

Oblivion looks awesome and it's fun but, it fails to deliver an interesting story, the characters look like Meatloaf, and it's not doing anything innovative. It's not GOTY material IMO. But then again, I thought RE4 was a POS and it was a lot of people's GOTY.

I am holding off until something that won't appear on the PC comes out on it that I really want to play.

For now, I am going to upgrade my video card to play Oblivion.
