Re: This is the reason I haven't been posting lately.
I had a tough time getting used to the characters in my party. Other than the lack of good weapon visuals, the game has a great story and evil badguys.

I LOVE Baldur's Gate II. It's one of my favorite games.
Have you played Baldur's Gate 1? Did you import your character? What class/kit did you pick?
Never played BGI regrettably but it has enough backstory to help me along. For my class I chose Sorc.
I have a question though... I seem only to use my level I skills. I have skills such as Monster Summoning III but cant use 'em even when I rest up for a day. I think it's because i have "Energy Drain" on my character. How do I fix this?
Re: This is the reason I haven't been posting lately.
Energy drain is level drain. It basically forces you down to a lower level and you can't go above that lower level (which affects stats and all that other stuff) until you heal. Go to a priest (or if you have a high enough cleric) and choose Greater Restoration. It should run you like 750 gold a pop, though. I HATED level drain. Stupid vampires.
That's why my main character is a Ranger/Archer. His THACO is ridiculous. It's like -11, and I can get it up to -15 using a skill (Negative is better, right? It's been a while since I played it. Regardless, it's whatever the better side is). For a time there he had killed 48% of all the monsters I fought. The only downside is that everyone is hauling around the arrows for him because he's like a rapid shot who expends ammo like there's no tomorrow, and to be able to hit anything later on you have to use magic arrows. Thank god for the Commando Kobolds later on dropping flame arrows like there's no tomorrow.
For the record, if I hadn't gone Ranger/Archer I probably would have gone Bard/Skald, honestly. I loved the idea of the kits, and I'm kind of sad that Icewind Dale 2 went to 3rd Edition rules because it meant I couldn't play with the kits and all the characters are kind of generic.
Baldur's Gate 1 is good, but I'm not sure if you'd like it after playing 2. For one thing, you are so weak for the majority of that game that it's a totally different experience. The graphics are also not the greatest compared to 2. However, you will get a lot more out of the little things in 2 if you've played 1.
Re: This is the reason I haven't been posting lately.
I played the original but had trouble staying interested in it. It was pretty hard and the constant disc switching was a real bane. Number 2 is a real beauty, though. I love the random conversations the NPCs have with each other. Speaking of which, Jan is one of the most hilarious characters in the history of video games. Any party that does not contain Jan is missing out big time.
Cespenar was pretty funny, too.

I've never really been able to hold my attention to this series. I'm not sure why exactly, because they are very good games. It doesn't make sense. Must be my attention span.
Re: This is the reason I haven't been posting lately.
I'm guessing BG II is nothing like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. Well, they are both action RPGs, but other than that, is that where the similarities end? Because I do not own a computer, so I've only played the console version. Well, Dark Alliance and Dark Alliance 2....and Champions of Norrath.
Re: This is the reason I haven't been posting lately.
Red Dragon had the violent reaction, I'll have the more relaxed reaction. For the record they are NOT both Action RPGs.
Dark Alliance is an Action RPG. Baldur's Gate (I and II) are RPGs, almost bordering on a strategy RPG (you can actually trace its gameplay DNA to Fallout, which IS a strategy RPG). They are completely and utterly different. The only similarities are that fact that they take place in the same world and that weapons and armor in both games use D&D rules.
For a console RPG example, Dark Alliance is to Baldur's Gate as Dirge of Cerebus is to Final Fantasy.
I actually liked Dark Alliance. Certainly not as much as Baldur's Gate I or II, but I liked it.
