I wanna know why none of the members of Gorillaz from the first album are on the second album. Perhaps because it was too popular. Kid Koala, Dan the Automator, and Del the Funky Homosapien tend to do more underground stuff. And then there's Damon Albarn from Blur, who (was) popular for a while. But even he's not in the new incarnation. I just think it's stupid how people probably think it's the same band, and it's not even close to the same thing. This new album has a bunch of nobodies playing on it.
Dunno...I never heard the album...I just looked at the liner notes and I don't remember seeing anyone from the first album. I might have overlooked Damon, but I know for a fact that Kid Koala, Del the Funky Homosapien and Dan the Automator are NOT on the new album. Which in reality is the reason I bought the first album (they did wonderful things together on the Deltron 3030 album), and the reason I really do not even care to listen to the second album.
Yeah, Damon Alburn pretty much IS the Gorillaz. He's the one who formed it, for the most part, with a graphic artist that I don't remember right now, but the one who designed the band members.
It's true that he parted ways with Dan the Automater and Del, but brought onboard Dangermouse.
Also, I wouldn't characterize the new people as "nobodies". I mean, De La Soul? Dangermouse? Dennis Hopper?
Yeah, I was going to leave the nobodies comment alone, but everybody who's been involved in Gorillaz is at least well established in the underground, and in some cases the mainstream.
See, now, this is the only reason I dislike underground artists getting mainstream recognition, since you get a bunch of the more casual music fans saying things like "they just grabbed some douche off the street and told him to rap."*
