    Why Windows Vista Won't Suck?

Why is it that all the Vista news pops up in my RSS feed when I'm not thinking about it?

An article by der dev-y peoples regarding the techie details of Vista outlines some rather interesting points as to why Vista is a "must-have upgrade" for any and all Windows users, including apparent major overhauls and virus fixin's and stuff and such.

    Plink!

Also, the OS is coming in six different flavors: Business, Enterprise, Home Basic, Home Premium, Starter and Ultimate. I forgot what the differences are, but I do know that Ultimate has everything the others have and Starter is for those third world countries and places where PCs are scarce and too costly to own.

I don't know. I seriously hope that Microsoft will finally get the security tightened up like it should have been in XP. If they can get that right without screwing up other important things, I might not wait as long to upgrade. But considering I just upgraded from '98 to XP last year, Microsoft shouldn't hold its breath. Also, the improvement to security needs to be significant without making me jump through hoops to install something I know is safe. If the tradeoff for security is aggravation, I'll stick with XP. I install things that are safe pretty often (mostly stuff I get from the university - compilers, programs, etc.), so wasting less time convincing the OS that it's ok to install something will be a big plus.

As far as I'm concerned no Windows upgrade is a must-have until no less than three games I want require it.

I would get it, just for the 64 bit goodness my computer was built for, but only if it will truly be good. *looks over at 64 bit computer* It's good as it is. Even if I am on my laptop.

Everyone needs to upgrade to Vista as soon as it comes out just as much as everon needs to get a new car every year. The advertizing campaign is exactly the same.

"This year's model is the best!" And that's exactly why there are recalls and updates!

No matter how "new" things get, the same amount of problems will filter in. Windows will always have to worry about viruses, as will Macintosh and Unix, just on a much smaller level. As new defenses come out, so do new "strategies of attack."

Vista? It's going to suck. Games? They will come out for it. Required to update? Yes, it's Microsoft. Subscribe to their lifestyle and well... that's it. Viruses? Indubitubly.

As much as I loved it, it was time to change it.

As much as I'd love for everyone in the world to be on a really safe environment... nobody seems to want to switch to Linux. >.> Actually, I mean, it's going to be risky everywhere, Linux is just less risky right now.

I have a problem paying upwards towards 300 dollars for just a bare bones operating system. Especially when I can turn around, pay at most 90 dollars and have more bells and whistles than Macintosh owners even get. And in most cases, currently, I don't even have to pay anything unless I want the "How To Use book".

Everything from little arcade games to prepackaged Office suites. I also enjoy the fact that there is no real difference between the "Server" package and the "Desktop" package. Suse 9.2 had in the thousands of applications to chose to install, or you can just select "Basic Install", or "Full Install" for those with massive HDDs, if you feel you don't ahve the time to sift through it all.
