Aww Flippin Hell

I got a file from one of my buddies on my MSN messenger and opened it without thinking a thing about it. Turns out it was a virus that sent itself to all those who were available on his buddy list. So now I'm sure I got this virus on my computer since when I try to open Norton anti-virus it would open and then automatically close on me. So now I'm scared about what to do, any ideas?

So far I think I know what the infected file is, its a MS-DOS file thats in my recived files section.

Yeah I know this thing is infected now because when I tried searching "msn messenger virus" on google the window closed on me, and when I tried opening that it wouldn't let me, so now I'm convinced this is infected.

Usually by holding a button during startup... I think mine's F5?

Norton's too damn pricey and inneffective. I just make sure I keep my computer virus free by not downloading stuff without knowing what it is, but that's not 100% effective. Someone did hack into my machine to install spyware before, and it was self-replicating and even tried to bar me from using anti-spyware programs.

I prefer seperating the drive into partitions, one for windows, one for Linux.
