View Full Version : What rules?!

I just read over the listed 'rules and regulations', and I am COMPLETELY appalled!! There are SO MANY times I see posts that don't follow those rules, yet nothing is done about them. I know being a moderator can be a lot of work, but please try harder, or at least get more moderators. Teach these senseless people to be more thoughtful when posting. It'll make the Pavilion a better place for all of us. Really, what's the point of even having rules and moderators? The way it stands now, the only way to be modded is to be cought eating babies! This is the source of the Pavilion's 'arrogance' that people've mentioned countless times on other forums. It's because people can do whatever the **** they want here and nothing ever happens to them. Anyways, please consider my suggestion, for I think it's a VERY important one. I'll cite specific examples if you wish.

And, I just read through this, posted by John Mora (staff member): "agetec wants to link to use and stuff, but can't until behavior improves" , which reinforces that what I'm talking about IS a problem and should be adhered to PROPERLY.

Quite true other than sometimes things happen to them. I've found its based on your popularity and biasedness of the mods that dictates this and not the rules at all. Which explains the repeated frustration and distaste many have with this site. Honestly I think they should almost split the pav, for those who want to talk rpgm ask Q's submit games and guides can stay here and for all the others can make a side message board where they bs and be jerks all day. Don't get me wrong I like BS'n but some of the crap is ridiculous and has been a scar to the Pav's reputation.

Actually, they have done that.

I agree there is a problem, but your soultion has already been implemented. It is the enforcement that William is complaining about.

I must admit I see a problem here, but I have not seen much of it at all in the Workshop Forum, and only a little in the RPGMaker General Forum. It is mostly restricted to the Free Forum / Playground areas.

Sadly, no matter where you go there will always be one or two people who are just Heterocyclic Hydrocarbons where the substituted Carbon was replaced with Arsenic (The Real Chemical name for such structures is Arsoles).

I try to just ignore them. But, rather than killing them in their sleep (as has been suggested elsewhere) I would prefer to sneak in to their homes late at night and Rip All the labels off their canned goods!!

Nya-Ha-Ha!!

Peace?

we can only mod what we see, and often we deal with problems through PMs rather on the forum itself. we arent intentionally letting anyone get away with anything. a lot of what people take issue with is just people's sense of humor.

if you see a bad post, click the "report bad post" link that is in every single post on this forum. its the red triangle with an "!" in it (make sure to fill in the comment field). Those notices get sent to me directly, and I'll take care of every single one sent my way. if I decide its not a bad post, I'll contact you and tell you why.

not true. the mods are not biased. if me and mora notice anything like that from anyone on staff, we kick them out, which is one of the first things I did when I took over the pavilion. popularity actually works against you here. we're more lenient with new members, and harsher on old members since they have no excuse for bad behavior, as they definately know the rules by now. just ask IRC or Ryner how many PMs they've gotten from me about some of the posts they've made.

also, I'm not much for banning people unless they repeatedly directly attack people (like you did, nash) over and over despite being told to knock it off.

Might I suggest deleting messages that break the rules, or editting the inappropriate parts out in addition to contacting people, and also being more strict? I say that because (for a while now) whenever I'd see a post that I felt was "spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts" I'd report them, yet still never see anything done.

it all depends on the post. if its in clear violation of the rules, it probably gets deleted. if it's right on the edge, it may get edited. if it's really minor, it gets left alone most often. as for being more strict, we are strict. we just dont see every single post on the forum. so go ahead and make use of the "report bad post" button so we see any problem posts that you come across.

Out of curiosity, using this post as an example, what would you do about it?
http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/showthread.php?p=82454#post82454
I say this because I reported it about 6 hours ago, and it's blantantly breaking this rule:
"2. Spamming the board or Flaming Others
If you repeatedly spam or flood the boards with irrelevant, nonsense replies and/or new topics, or flame (insult) someone on the board, you will be warned."
And this regulation:
"Do not flame. This is should be obvious. Don't attack other members of this forum. Be mature."
And this regulation too:
"Topic Hijacking. This includes intentionally straying from the subject of a topic and turning it's purpose towards something else, such as starting a flame war in a topic, flaming someone in a topic for reasons not associated with the topic, making comments directed to people participating in the topic that do not have any relation to the topic, and posting just general nonsense in a topic. You can get a strike for this. all it takes is for the creator of the topic to request it, or anyone actively participating in the topic."

Yet it's still there, and he's not on the warning list either. Even if he's been around and some people know he's joking (which he very much appears to have been serious), new people (such as people who just came here from agetec's link) won't.

you mean this?

Someone was a little antisocial during school......
its a joke (which doesnt require an "lol" or emoticon). granted, it doesnt belong there and I will remove it because of that.
as for topic hijacking, I dont think he was trying to change the subject of the topic. topic hijacking is more like asking about gran turismo in a topic about variables in RPGM2. you just took it way too seriously, and ended up helping along the "hijacking" of that topic.

take a lot of crap for no reason from these dumbass users
you complain about the rules, and then go break one yourself?

no ban warnings will be given out to anyone in that topic, and I will weed out the garbage now.

also, you say you reported it, yet my inbox is empty. a random post addressed to me in a topic I may never read isnt a good way of reporting problems.

in the future, dont reply to bad posts, just report them so they can be removed without further damaging the topic.

I do see what you mean, I havent been in the RPGM-specific forums for about a week. they are messy, and I will appoint new dedicated moderators in them accordingly. if you're interested in doing that, watch for the post I'll make in main forum in a little while.

Perhaps it was a joke, perhaps it wasn't, but it really lessens the Pavilion's integrity letting stuff like that slide only because the elite few who've been here long enough know what they mean. I'd be EXTREMELY surprised if ANYONE new to these forums assumed THAT was a joke. That's what I mean by more strict: mod everything that violates the rules, no matter how or by how much.

I added to my above post. please read.

and I'm not gonna mod EVERYTHING, because then a lot of creative expression would be killed. it would also make the forums completely serious, and that wouldnt be fun. sure, in some cases it would benefit, but I think it would end up doing more harm in the long-run.

Don't make me murder you in your sleep too, Ryner. I haven't said anything AT ALL to offend you yet, yet you come in here and insult me. If that doesn't deserve banning, I don't know what does.

There's clearly something wrong with the server then. I ALWAYS reported the bad posts by clicking the 'Report Bad Post' icon near the bad post.

And also, why even list the rules if they're not rules. The dictionary I have defines a rule as "An authoritative, prescribed direction for conduct." You should rename them something more appropriate like 'requests'. Please don't take this as in insult to the Pavilion. This is simply how I feel.

it doesnt deserve banning, but it did get his post removed.

I just randomly reported a post of mine to myself, and it got in my inbox. I'll look into it though.

I didn't flame you. You're acting like a 10-year-old, I politely asked you to stop acting like a little punk in an attempt to help you stop acting like a 10-year-old. If my efforts to make you a better person fell on dead, punky, 10-year-old ears, I apologize and ask that you are more understanding in the future. Thank you, God Bless.

Did it at least get him a ban-warning? I only say this because I've seen posts like that from him a TON before.

Except that you DID flame me, and continure to flame me by calling me a 'ten-year-old'. If this doesn't fit into "I'm not much for banning people unless they repeatedly directly attack people (like you did, nash) over and over despite being told to knock it off", I don't know what does.

I'm closing this, we'll deal with this situation later today. as-is, this topic isnt going anywhere good.

it did NOT get him a ban warning. the only reason it got deleted was because it wasnt on topic. he did nothing worth punishing. what you dont understand about ryner is that 99.9% of the time, he's joking around. thats obvious to almost everyone on the forum but you.
