I bought some PS2 games from Gamestop, one of them was Zone of the Enders. I heard you guys talking about it, so I decided to get it, it was only about $17 anyway.

I noticed that the case said "2CD" so when I seen the clerk put only one disc in I asked her for the other one. She put the other disc in there, and I left.

When I got home I noticed that the box said the second disc was supposed to be some sort of Metal Gear demo. She gave me two copies of Zone of the Enders.

I don't really know what I'm going to do with the other ZOE cd. I have two of them. I guess I have a backup copy?

sell it to gamestop.

Well, if Gamestop has the same service EB does, you can turn it back in. If it was preowned ($17 sounds preowned) you can maybe turn it in (EB gives you 14 days) for a full refund. Just make sure you get a different clerk and give them back the case and one of the two discs. If they ask where the second disc is, tell them it was supposed to be some Metal Gear Solid demo that you never got. Which is true. You won't be lying.

That's easy. You take it back to gamestop for a store credit refund and get something else.

edit: jeez, rapid fire posting. looks like i've been beaten to the punch. twice.

I'd get a refund altogether seeing as how you got ripped off. I've seen ZOE for as low as $5 in the GameStops and EBs around here.

Or just skip ZOE and get ZOE2. 'Tis tres superior.

edit: Heck, Gamestop.com has ZOE for $8.99.

The MGS demo was better than the full game of ZoE.

The MGS demo was better than the full game of ZoE.

Sad thing is, for most of my friends... the MGS demo was LONGER than the full game of ZoE.

Hell, I've been playing MGS2 for about 3 hours. I'm still on the boat. That's right... I'm still on the damn boat. Cause I can't advance? Hell no. I've snapped the necks of at least 100 guards and thrown them off of the side of the deck. That will NEVER grow old... and I don't want to advance the game and no longer have that luxury.

Hmm... I should save on a second file or something so I can start progressing.

they also throw away games for systems they no longer support (anything below ps2 basically, excluding gameboys and n64)

My Gamestop must be Avalon or something cuz it still has NES, SNES, Genesis and Dreamcast games and hardware.

My local EB Games have started carrying NES, SNES, DC, N64 games. The sad thing is that ps1 games are hard to find....irony....

The store where I work at (GameCrazY), that kinda thing happens all the time. I've had three different copies of the Metroid Prime: Hunters DEMO be traded in, by two different employees. Those are the FREE DEMOS. We can't sell those.

And as far as old school games go, that's a HUGE part of our business. No other place in kalamazoo, I've found, has 3 copies of Paper Mario, a Chrono Trigger, Alundra, and Dragon Warrior 7, among others, all at once. If we got rid of those systems, I can honestly say we'd lose about 20% of our customer base. (A lot of people just stop in to see the wierd stuff we get in ,like a NES game we took in called Master Chui and the Drunkard Hu. It's hilarious)

i just recently found a ps1 game i'd been looking for for years at my local gamestop. it was the least expected thing ever, except maybe them pulling their head out of their asses and selling old school games again, so i scooped it up.

Why is it that places like EB have brand spanking new games right out of the shipping box, are opened up and the discs are stored in paper envelopes with the cases seperate?!

The discs always get all scratched up when they do that. Its stupid.

They do it with EVERYTHING too. Except for mabye ten copies they put up behind the glass case at the front counter. Plus they slap these huge EB stickers on the front of the cases that are impossible to get off without making your case look all fugly.

Actually about a 2 months ago I promised myself that Id never go into another EB again. Everytime I go in there I come out angry or just plain annoyed.

Even their used games prices are friggin outrageous.

Sadly, I don't have much of an option, since there are very few good video game stores around me.

I suppose I should be glad there's no Gamestop around where I live that I know of. There's an EBgames right across from a deli/restaurant an hour away, but I'd rather go to the Slackers a half-hour away over ANY game selling/trading store. Especially Wal-Mart, 'cause it seems like they never have what I'm looking for.

Big Rick Cook
02-24-2005, 04:13 PM
The local Wal*Mart got in 3 copies of Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon, 3 months after it came out. I don't care who you are, but if you're going to get a game, get it on release day. I had to wait 5 days from its official release date for my Gamestop to finally have it in stock. **** Gamestop.

EB isn't too impressive either, they've got some Genesis games, which is cool, but their selection is nowhere near as good as GameXChange. There are 4 in Oklahoma City, one 15 minutes away in Norman, OK, 1 in Edmond, north of here, and 1 in Yukon, northwest of here. I've seen some pretty rare things pop up on the grid around these stores. They had 3 copies of Shadow Tower when I was in there last. Phantasy Star 2, 3, and 4 all at the same time, and they even sell obscure systems like Jaguar and 3DO if they have them in stock. It's a VG nerd's paradise, for the most part.

I've had bad experiences with just about every videogame store but I've had many good ones as well, naturally.

GameStop.com gave me faulty copies of Katamari Damacy and just about ruined cases with the Silent Hill games I got a while ago, BUT I managed to get 3/4 of the Farscape TV series for $80. What a fantastic steal.

EBGames was worse however when I got Rome! Total War for my dad and, foolishly, didn't ask for a gift receipt. Christmas came and there was no goddamn disc in the box. Yeah, because they ****ing keep them behind the desk right? Well, ****, they just about robbed me $50 and without a receipt there's nothing I can do. But before that I got Suikoden II there.

So, really, everything sucks, most of the time.

Yeah, way back then the gamecube was new, our gamestop sold us a copy of Animal Crossing (new) and there was no disc inside. I drove right back over there and demanded they give us another copy.

They eventually provided us with another copy, but they made us open it in the store to make sure the game was in there. So I did their song and dance BS and finally got my game.

I may be a fanboy but I'm not about to take that sh!t lying down. I know it wasn't their fault but you'd think this rather large packaging error might have happened more than once and perhaps they would take notice.

I remember this little game store called GameScape. They had a great selection, as well as imports and systems ready-to-test your games out on. 1 PSX, Saturn, Neo-Geo, SNES, and Genesis.

We bought the ultra-rare, $100+ on Ebay DragonBall GT: Final Bout there for $25.

Then they went out of business...

I live in the Hometown of Movie Gallery, they get ALL the old games and systems that ALL the stores in all the U.S. used to rent. Then they sell them in this little run-down store right next to the HQ. I bought FFT, Chrono Trigger, Paper Mario, and Perfect Dark, didn't break $20. =D

Draygone
02-25-2005, 12:41 AM
Phantasy Star 2, 3, and 4 all at the same time That would sound impressive had I not seen such an occurrance when I went and picked up Phantasy Star 4. Now if only they'd have the three Dragon Warrior games on NES besides Dragon Warrior I, Earthbound, and Panzer Dragoon anything on Sega Saturn. Maybe yours has these games sitting around.

This place of mine has games and accessories for about every system (but unfortunately they don't have any of the original Game & Watch systems), some ready-to-use systems and a couple TVs to playtest the games you want to get, a few magazines and board games (Simpsons Monopoly?), LOTS of CDs (these things take up an aisle that almost spans all the way from the front to the back of the store), a bunch of DVDs, some cardboard cutouts of movie/music stuff (I remember seeing an Austin Powers before), plenty of guides (and yet they didn't have an RPGM2 guide when I went looking for one), a few card game sets and expansions like Yu-Gi-Oh, and a bit of clothing merchandise. They get pretty good business, too, which is funny since they're in the same complex as the Wal-Mart five stores down.

Well, the guy at my local Gamestop told me that they just got in 15 copies of Final Fantasy Chronicles for PS1...and this was about 6 months ago. He told me they are rare, and as I am not one for E-bay too much, I took his word for it and bought 2...one for me, and one to sell on E-bay. Imagine my chagrin when there were MANY copies on E-bay going for the same price that I payed for mine ($15). So I gave it to a buddy for X-mas instead. I still go into that Gamestop, and wouldn't you know it...they still have 8 or 9 copies left in this dump bin full of PSX games. I was duped!!!

Then, they were having a buy 2, get one free sale one weekend, and the guy behind the counter told me that the sale was for Saturday and Sunday. I was in a hurry to get home Saturday, so I figured I'd come back Sunday to get some games. Turns out the sale was only Saturday. And to make matters worse, they left up ONE sign advertising the sale. It was back by the used Xbox games. So I asked the guy, "Your sign is still up...can I get my free game?" He told me that because the sign was by the Xbox games, he would only let me buy 2 Xbox games to get another one free, not PS2 games, which are what I really wanted. Bunch of horse puckey!

I never buy anytrhing from EB games anymore. I hate that place. I only go in there so I can check their prices, then go to FutureShop and see if EBs price was cheaper.

If you find anything in Future Shop that has a lower price somewhere else, they match it, then take off even more by taking 20% of the difference off the price.

Say EB has KH2 for $59.99(it actually is), and say Future Shop has it for $69.99. Tell Future Shop that and youll end up paying $57.99 instead.

Gamestops always, ALWAYS know the worth of what they're selling. The tip-off should've been that they were selling FF:C to you so cheap.

Valkysas
04-19-2006, 11:41 PM
not always. back when they were buying used copies of Dragonball GT: Final Bout for 80 dollars (so they could sell it for 200), they had two used copies sitting out for 18 each. My sister bought them both, and traded them in a few hours later for 160 dollars.

One gamestop location gave me Die Hard Trilogy 2 instead of the original. I didnt care that much since it was an impulse buy and only set me back $2 in change.

Another gamestop gave me the wrong dvd volume of NGE. I was ****** but never got around to swapping it back.

Other than that, they're alright. My brother's age old friend is a manager who is moving on up in the line of succession at a Gamestop.

Gamestop.com claims that EB Games is under their umbrella now. Just like Babbage's, Software Etc., and Funco Land. There's an EB, a Gamestop, and a Funco Land less than three miles from each other, and they're all owned by the same parent company.

Funny, huh?

What makes me sick about that is that I sold a version of Shadow Tower to EB a few years back. :P I'll see if our used stores have it around here. We have at least two (one being a place called "Game Haven" and the other is "FuncoLand.")

The merger happened. Some of the stores keeps their old signs and stuff. There's still an EB and a Babbage's at the mall here but they take GameStop discount cards, have all the same sales, and try to shove Game Informer down everybody's throats just like GameStop. And there's still two actual GameStop stores within a half mile of that mall. They're trying to saturate the area or something.

I have a Gamestop in a mall and then a Gamestop directly across the street from the mall. It's a reflection of the fact that one used to be a Babbage's and one used to be Funcoland.

I miss Funcoland and looking through that paper that listed the prices for all the games.
