    Lord of the Rings

One thing I just had to say, is that, as everyone is complaining about this game, there are a few cool gems in it. I am sure many people here are fans of the Lord of the Rings, and I think it is kinda cool how you could almost make a LOTR game with this. YES, NOT THE MOST ORIGINAL IDEA, I KNOW, but it is kinda cool if you wanted to try it.
    1.) You have dwarves
2.)The warrior looks like...hmmm...the king of gondor in a way, doesn't he?
3.) The sage, first color configuration, looks kinda like someone familiar.
4.)There is an Ent looking character (in the animal section)
5.) I believe it is the dark knight, in the medium monster group, first color...clue as to who he looks like "Baggins....Shire....", and no, not Gollum. (Hint: one of the nine)
6.) Yes it is a little stretch, but I noticed in the trailer and screenshots of the game even, that the dark dragon looks a tad bit like the Balrog, minus the flaming whip and sword.
7.)You got your orcs and goblins.
8.)The cursed knight...(HUGE STRETCH OF IMAGINATION) but yeah, you could almost use him as a Sauron type character.
9.)Don't know if anyone here has played LOTR:the third age, but that is a lot of what the battle layout, and this game in general, reminds me of.

Yes, the game is limited, but I am wondering if anyone has tried this? I havent gotten that much time with it yet, but i kinda want to. and since it is kinda hard to be original, with all of us havint the same models and weapons, I think it would be cool to see someone do a version of LOTR

        Re: Lord of the Rings

Oh man, you have mortally wounded my pride...oh what a world. Word to the wise...I have seen some messages on here from various veterans about how fun it is to make fun of the newbies so they will slip up, say something out of order, and get banned. Well, you are wasting your time with me, just letting you know. There are too many good things in life to appreciate, and I got too many things good in my life that I won't waste my time letting people who just have negative stuff to say get me mad or down. And hey, for those of us gamers, we got these rpg makers, even if the limits suck sometimes, right? But that is still pretty kick-ass we got em. Is there anyone who has an actual reply to the post? If so, I would appreciate it. If not, well, that is cool too. I just wondered if anyone had tried it. I could see it being branded as unoriginal in RPG maker 1 and 2, seeing as there is a huge scope of things you can do. In RPG Maker 3, however, you are very limited, and there is bound to be repeats and similarities. So, wondering if anyone tried, and thought it would be fun. Thanks.

Well, to be truthful my game has many similar elements. This is mostly due to the fact that I am emulating a lot of things from the D&D universe, which as we all know borrows heavily from Tolkie. Dwarfs, elves, humans, and halflings. I haven't made any blatent references to LotR, but that doesn't mean I wont, I mean everyone who will play my game would get the reference, so I'm sure I might. Oh yeah...and all the halflings can cook and throw rocks.

hehe, that's cool man. Which people are you using for the halflings? I am sorry...I am familiar with alot of the warriors and cooler guys, but haven't looked so much at the villager models...and so I am wondering who you used for halflings? I suppose...I know it kinda sucks that the knight looks like a roman soldier instead...but in case of LOTR, that is kinda cool...you could almost make it look like the warriors in Gondor or something like that. So that is kinda sweet as well. I suppose for the warrior, it kinda looks like a combo between aragorn and faramir...so it is kinda up in the air of who that could be.

I used the male child model, the red headed on for the wizard and the light haired one for the thief. It weilds daggers, which is perfect for a thief, and there is a dagger model that looks like a wand (especially if you make it glow) for the wizard. I think I'm going to have an underlying racism throughout certain areas, so race is going to be a big deal.

                  Re: Lord of the Rings

                  Okay Ryner,
Sorry for that, man. No hard feelings. I don't know why I thought it was so special. I guess it just came out when all that Matrix and Crouching Tiger stuff was coming out, and I like how it was different, and the idea of a martial arts style with guns. I suppose, if it wasn't for the action scenes, it isn't that special, lol. I am a sucker for that flashy stuff though.

Pretty awesome Shadowhen. See, I know that rpg maker 3 has really limited a lot of us, but I like the thinkers who say, hey, we got this piece of software, and even if we are limited, let's make the most of what it gave us, and make something awesome.

I love all the games like Final Fantasy X, Zelda, etc...I dont know...sometimes, I am a big fan of simpler traditional rpgs. you know...final fantasy II, Lufia, Chrono Trigger, etc...the stuff without 50 million secrets and things you never have enough time in your lifespan to find, and where you heaven forbid, maybe even had the same 4 characters the WHOLE game. I think what RPG maker 3 is is a calling back to simpler rpgs...you can still do something great. We just have to find creative ways around it, and this really forces us to be better storytellers, and not so much about visuals...and yeah, it sucks we dont have options to go the other directions..but in a way I think that is kinda cool. And we just have to hope we get all of the above in the next one.

                    Re: Lord of the Rings

Other people have mentioned the idea of a Lord of the Rings rpg bck when rpgm2 came out. I always thought it was an idea with potential, and yes, rpgm3's graphic's are perfect for one. What's coolest is the Lord of the Rings story, however, and replicating it well enough with rpgm3 would be tough. I, of course, would rather take an original game over something like this.

Yeah, I see what you mean, Williamkirk. Well, I suppose, if you wanted to, you could always expand on the story and do something different, or come up with a different legend or adventure for the characters to go through. I was just stating the fact that, so many people are disappointed with this game, but it is pretty cool they give you some people who look like some cool characters from the movies, that people can put in their stories.

Meh. I liked Equilibrium. But really, while most of the game does scream LOTR, I just couldn't bring myself to play anyone's RPGMaker game based on LOTR because...

well, I just don't believe that any amateur is going to do Tolkien any justice.
Took me 15 minutes to remember how to change my signature, and this is all I came up with.

Yeah, amen to that. It would be fun to see people try, but of course, nobody beats the real thing. That is another thing that kinda sucks...because of Tolkien, monsters such as trolls and orcs and things that usually look kinda dumb or aren't scary in many people's stories, have become really cool, and scary, and awesome again. My point is, what is with the troll graphic in this game, for one thing? Trolls are supposed to be scary and cool, or i wish it at least looked like the cave troll. But this one looks like some constipated old man with a club, or like the troll in the first Harry Potter movie. Not too scary...and I am not a big fan of the balrog, or goblin models in this game either. I Think they could have been a lot cooler. There are some kick-ass monster models in here...but some are just...beyond lame
