Would you pay $29 for a RPG Maker XP game with the default battle system?

    http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-ASGU/asguaard

Apparently some people think you will.

I understand wanting to sell their RPG Maker projects, but jeez, I seriously doubt "100+ hours of gameplay!" is anywhere accurate, and the default battle system...ugh.

I don't think it would be possible for me to be any less interested in doing so. Especially after reading the description. No thank you. Why would they charge that much? You could buy RPGMXP for that kind of money.

Checked out the screenies and video and it looked like an okay game, but not something I'd pay for. I've seen far worse-looking games selling for more money on these DD sites and honestly I don't get who would buy them.

How did you know it was the Default Battle System? I didn't see it anywhere in the video, screens, or description!

I'm planning on using the DBS in my own game but changing a ton of the clockworks in order to give it a different battle flow.

Probably not. Would need to play a demo, and be completely blown away by it.

In the video there is one battle. Per the forums, it is the DBS with a outside "skill" system to learn skills. So yeah, it be Turn-Based Dragon Warrior style RPGM2 lame-battle.

4:30 in the Video: Aside from the HP/MP Bars and Status notifications, everything is else is default DBS.

There's nothing wrong with the DBS in itself; just if you're going to charge the cost of RPG Maker XP for it, I expect scripted Custom Menus, Custom Battles that aren't simple tweaks to the default system.

I read their forums to see if they were serious about this "100+ Hour" thing, looks like they delete anything negative said about the game, because I can't find an honest review.

Ah, gotcha. The video I'd seen was the 4-minute one on the purchase page.

If you're gonna bother making "100 hours" of actual content, you should probably take the time to change the battle system. I wonder if they just took the "skill system" script from somewhere else (which in a lot of cases is allowed by the script author, but that doesn't make it any less lazy).

Again, not terrible by any means, but not something I'd pay for, and certainly not $29. But a lot of DD artists seem to have an inflated view of what their game is worth, compared to things you could buy at retail.

Watched the "epic" final battle. The game looks horrible. Dialogue was wooden, the fight was dull, and the battle screen was butt ugly. It's not 1995 people, try some innovation if you're going to actually charge for your game. I am actually offended on a personal level.

I read a review that says the 100 hours is because the game is extremely unbalanced, it is extremely hard to grind gold, and the encounter rate is really high. :3

That said, it reminds me of Edward's Quest. That game was 20 hours of grinding. >_>

                  *shakes the box*

This looks terrible, and anyone who paid for it that doesn't personally know the creators should feel bad.

Ouch, aren't we all vindictive today.

                    I find this amusing.

Okay, I haven't played it. I haven't played a lot of independently developed RPGs, either. But I have played Charles Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden, a game with an original premise and an original combat system. I was able to play it because the developers had a wealth of mirrors from which you can download it for free.

If that's the case, then it's really not worth $30.

i dont think any amateur game maker should charge money with a game they made using a piece of rpg maker style software. id want everyone to play my game and give me feedback on how ive done. also i have a difficult time justifying paying a 30 buck price tag on a professional game, let alone a game made by a bunch of yahoos.

even looking beyond this i see that they are removing honest comments which leads me to believe the designer is childish and the game must be lacking. even if i had money just piling up outside my door id still not send money their way. maybe 5 bucks at the most, but 30?

id be much more willing to put money down to play some of our very good games here.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

You are allowed to charge for RPGmaker games?

I guess it would have to all be original content, lest you face legal action right? Like music and stuff?
