I'm actually one of the few around here who's actually interested in the ESPN and hulu capabilities, but you shouldn't be forced to pay for them, they should be optional. Dumb decision on Microsoft's part.

I think I'll be canceling too. I almost never use Live anymore and there's nothing exclusive to it that can warrant that price.

For the past year, I've been getting promotional offers to buy a month for a dollar, every month.

They finally stopped last month. That's the only way I'd have gold service.

Its already $59.99 here in Canada and has been forever. It still only comes out to like $5 a month. Its still pretty cheap considering people spend 2x more than that on cigarettes in a single day.

I bought a year subscription back in June though after not having gold for about a year. I was doing fine without gold, but then a few games came out I was looking forward too, and I still hardly played them online.

I dont use any of those other features either like facebook, and twitter, or that movie service. Just for vidya. Ive been thinking about getting a triple for a while now, but hell even Sony is talking here and there about charging for stuff.

          I dunno. We'll see I guess~

I barely play the icebox and I rarely buy icebox alive cards.

That's the price of a game! I believe Scrooge Mcduck is behind this.

Wait, if everyone here is cancelling their gold, why did I renew mine for the reduced fee?!

Took advantage of the reduced price for when it renews. After that, we'll see if I stick with Gold. To be honest, I wish M$ gave a better heads up about the increase in price. That was too soon to let everyone know.

I would really like for there to be an option of what I want for my Gold account. Not interested in ESPN, and I can live without last.fm.

Buy from Amazon, their 12 month cards are usually under $40.

Re: Xbox Live Gold now $60 a year

I had a 360 for over a year. Only games I ever played online were UNO until I got all the achievments, 1 vs 100 and the RE5 demo once with my cousin. Only other online game I had was GTA4. I never paid for Live but I did make a few gamertags to get extra free months. Basically it wasn't worth it for me at any price. But if it was worth $50 to you before an extra $10 a year shouldn't be a dealbreaker. But if you didn't think it was really worth it before this may be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

P.S. DSi and DSi XL prices dropped $20. DS Lite price is unchanged.

                          60 / 12 = 5.

Is 5 dollars a month that bad?

Considering their direct competitor lets you play online for free?

I don't think it's the extra ten dollars as much as it is the principle of the thing. Nobody was happy paying the $50 a year, but they grumbled and did it. Jacking the price up another ten dollars seems to a lot of people (I'm guessing) as just one more in a long line of Microsoft's nickel and dime business model.
