So which country are you rooting for in the World Cup?

Now that it's reached the final eight of the World Cup, and our traditional alliances (the US for most of you, I'm assuming, and England in my case) have been knocked out, who are you rooting for?

The remaining teams are Germany, Ghana, Netherlands, Spain, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, and (surprise surprise) Brazil.

I've decided on Ghana since I don't think an African team has made it this far before, and seeing as the World Cup's held on that continent for the first time, it seems only fitting. But the Netherlands is a close second for me.

Actually, when it comes down to it, I'll root for anybody but Brazil seeing as they've won enough already...

I've rooted for Spain ever since the U.S. and England were defeated.

I'm for Argentina. I know Maradona can act like a douche, but you can't deny his passion. Also, they're just fun to watch. Skill + Aggression will make me a fan of anyone. It wouldn't break my heart if they didn't win though.

I liked watching Germany's young team pull together and squash critics too. I haven't seen the current Netherlands team, but in the past their play has been yawn-inducing.

I feel the same way about basketball. I've tried on several occasions to give it a fair shot and I just can't make myself care.

I usually find no enjoyment in soccer as well, but since 2002 I've always really gotten into the World Cup. Now it's even easier to enjoy with espn3.com running most of the games live with picture-in-picture and instant highlights and other neat features.

I don't have a preference for a winner, but Spain might be the safest bet at this point only because they're just about guaranteed a spot in the next round, no way does Uruguay beat them. Every other match is less clear cut.

I'm the same way about American football, baseball, cricket, golf, etc...

The only sports I can wholly enjoy watching are basketball and tennis.

Football (soccer) in and of itself is pretty boring, but the World Cup is uniquely exciting for me. Perhaps because it's the one sport the world at large takes seriously, which imbues a passion in me I otherwise wouldn't have.

Besides, you can't get more over-the-top than listening to Spanish-speaking commentators during a football match.

Anyway, as far as the Netherlands goes, I suppose there isn't anything particularly exciting about watching them play, as opposed to, say, the Germans (who, especially in their game against England, showed phenomenal coordination), but they've been doing well, and unlike the Germans, they haven't won a World Cup yet. I'm trying to root for the underdogs here!

Though I suppose with that reasoning I could just as easily root for Spain, which might be a wiser choice.

The teams I wanted to see win, the States and Japan, are all knocked out. That Japan loss on penalty kicks was really tough to watch, and all because of Komano's shot that hit the crossbar.

I guess seeing Ghana win would be okay, so, uh, that one.

I'll still watch the championship match, though.
