When a battle finishes, I get all the preset messages (Received X Exp, Gold, etc.) but afterwards when I check the status screen Experience still reads 0. Is there something I need to flip for this? I made my members from scratch so I figured I'm missing something.

Here we go again. This should really have been put in the manual since eveyone who makes characters from scratch has the same problem.

First solution: Never ever make characters or enemies from scratch. There are many battle scripts that every character and enemy needs to function in battle and it is easier to just change the name, image, and stats of a copied character/ enemy then to mess around with finding all the required scripts.

Second solution: Since you've already made the characters, your going to have to go under the ADV tab and find the slot that says Battle End. There should be a script here called Battle Victory. The problem is that there are two Battle Victories, one for Classes (the first one) and one for characters. Since people always find the wrong one first, characters can't get experience or level up. Just switch the Battle Victory script for the other, correct one.

I'd might as well get an RPGM2 FAQ, Tips & Tricks thread running again. Do the ancient Pavilion ruins have any signs of the original one?

It's a shame that in RPG Maker 2, how to make your characters gain experience from a battle is considered a tip/trick.

Yeah, it's five pages long.

Here it is:

RPG Maker 2 Tips and Tricks (http://p081.ezboard.com/frpgmakerpavilionboardfrm285.showMessage?topicID=484.topic)

It's just something they forgot to mention in the instructional book.

It's five pages long just to explain how to give experience after a battle.

No, it says lots of stuff.

So my question inspired the reposting of a post that would prevent tons of new people from asking that same question over and over again.

Yay! I'm helping!
