Kojima: Product placement is de rigueur

Like recent Hollywood productions, his latest game is packed with product placements to bring in additional revenue, including AXE bodywash from Unilever and Doritos corn chips and Mountain Dew from PepsiCo.

      Helps keeps costs down.

Plus companies know no one's watching televised ads when they're busy playing games instead.

It's just that Kojima is supposed to be this maverick game designer who follows his own path, regardless of what people think, and he falls right in line with product placement.

Oh, wait...if he doesn't care what people think, I guess product placement makes sense.

        It's just disheartening.

I'm not a fan of all the product placement either.

The game's setting is1974. Did AXE body wash even exist back then?!

What about all those giant walking tanks, psychic soldiers and J-pop songs?!

Key words there being, "supposed to be."

If I'd played his games, I'd be able to say, "He IS this maverick game designer, yadda yadda."

                    He probably blames nano-machines.

I don't know, there's something so absurd about there being bags of Doritos and bottles of AXE laying around Metal Gear's world that it feels to me like it fits right in.

I'll tell ya - I've been playing nothing but portable games these past two weeks. I get to walk around and check the news and stuff.

And, like a Japanese person, I take the train a lot.

isn't there a "nano machines" flow chart?

Also, let's see a few console-less games succeed, and I don't think he means PC games...
