Hey, I wanna maek a gaem! (version 3.0)

I know this has been brought up multiple times, but I know there are a lot of people like me who don't exactly know where to start and what the current, hottest new options are for creating a game. What options are out there, what are you guys using, what do you suggest for someone w/out much programming experience? Feel free to elaborate, tell me to just learn whatever, or wave your dick about your own accomplishments as much as you'd like.

if I knew how to program, I'd go with XNA and make a quick buck.

I have some programming knowledge but I have no idea how to go about making a game.

There's Gamemaker. Y'know it'll be difficult to sell, but I think it's fine for hobbyists.

Speaking of which, it seems the pavilion game is in an indefinite limbo at the moment. I may start a personal project soon...

For those of us with some programming experience and some C++ skill Game Coding Complete 3rd Edition is pretty great.

I'd go for some tool or another if you don't have any programming experience. Even then you will have a hard time. Some basic understanding of programming principles is pretty much essential.

All jokes aside, the PC versions of RPG Maker may be a pretty good choice for you. They provide ease of use with no programming knowledge necessary, and a lot of room for growth and improvement as you gain skill.
