    Hey guys

I've been inactive for a while, I've been having some problems with the computer and network connection, so haven't been on the Pav. Not sure when or if the problems will clear up either.

On the bright side, the last time I was at Gamestop, I was going through the under $10 racks for used PS2 games and I found a copy of RPGM2 for $6. Oh yeah. I'd only been looking for that for about 3 years now. On the downside, my PS2 has been running real crappy, and unfortunately since RPGM2 is on one of those damn blue discs, I haven't been able to use it at all. I think the PS2 finally died on me the other day, since it won't read any of my discs now. Just looking through the manual for the game and seeing all the features listed in there that I can't play with is driving me nuts. Ah well, it's all academic anyway, since I don't have a Max Drive or anything else to really get the most out of the game.

    Re: Hey guys

I would go inside of my launch-model PS2 and clean the eye thing so my discs would read properly and RPGM2 would be the only game that remained nonfunctional. That's probably about the time when I said F the console versions.

I see the Pav is demonstrating its usual skill at cheering people up again. *smirk*

I'll agree, it totally fails as a game. If anything, it's more like... I dunno, a development tool, or something. In that aspect, it's actually not bad. It could've been touched up a bit (especially in that creating certain new things left you with new things that didn't work because they aren't automatically assigned the scripts that make them work; e.g. party members), but it works pretty good once you get the hang of it.

Well, I did that, opened up my PS2, cleaned off the lens (which was absolutely filthy), and cleaned the dust out of the DVD player. It wasn't as cruddy as I thought it would be, but there was still quite a bit of grime, dust, and crap in there. Now my PS2 can read the RPGM2 disc. Hopefully, that means I fixed what was wrong with the system for now. Now, I want to go play with the thing, I've been looking forward to this Maker for quite some time.

As a game RPGM2 sucks and as a developmental tool it is one of the worst you could pick.

How much experience have you had with RPGM2, Caciss? How many games made with it have you played?

Hmm... I think he means that the effort required to achieve results with RM2 might not be worth it considering the very small audience of people with working discs and max drives.
Oh my god! You are so beautiful.
I had no idea how beautiful you were.

                    Re: Hey guys

It's not that much different than those with RPGM1 and 3. Honestly, the only RPGMs without a limited target audience are XP and VX.

                      Re: Hey guys

I've been playing around with it today.

                      It's huge.

Yeah, it looks like there's a lot of stuff I can do with this one, and it seems a bit overwhelming. The hardest thing to get uswe to so far is the fact that the map editor is used for both the overworld and towns. At first I went into the dungeon editor to try to make a town because dungeons were for all the areas in the original game. Then it took me a few hours to figure out how to get the map nice and flat for a good town rather than all those bumps I was getting at first.

The control scheme is a bit wonky. What's with the stupid "hold down sqare and press buttons" crap? This looks likes it's based off one of the PC Makers, so yeah it's going to be different than using a mouse and keyboard, but why didn't they use something that at least works like a normal menu? Maybe making something in mormal mode and then using beginner to actually edit it might be a bit easier, I'll try that. Also, the developers really should have made use of the right analog stick for camera controls at least in the editor to make life a bit easier.

And what's with the whole X button for menu and triangle to quickly talk/examine stuff? That's BACKWARDS!! So damn annoying!

Anyway, I'm just slapping together a really crappy simple game to get the basics learned. So 1 town, an overworld map, a dungeon, and a few monsters here and there to flesh things out.

Also going to copy down those damage formulas from the sticky over in the RPGM2 Worshop. Unfortunately, everything else in that thread is over my head for now.
